  • Patent number: 10475024
Abstract: A method of securely conducting a financial transaction includes receiving, at a card reader, a first plurality of messages from a smart card; identifying, using the reader, one or more sensitive messages in the first plurality of messages, where the first plurality of messages conforms to a protocol of the financial transaction; encrypting, using the reader, the one or more sensitive messages using a cryptographic key of the reader to generate encrypted messages; formatting, using the reader, a second plurality of messages according to the protocol to send to a mobile device, where the second plurality of messages includes the encrypted messages and messages in the first plurality of messages that are not sensitive; determining, using a mobile device, action steps according to the protocol, where the action steps are determined from the second plurality of messages; and executing the action steps.

  • Patent number: 5374004
Abstract: The belt of a two-reel tape cartridge is stretchably entrained around the tape packs, a belt driving roller, and a pair of idler rollers, each of which is journalled on a shaft projecting from one end of an arm. The other end of each arm is pivotably mounted in the cartridge so that the idler rollers ride on the belt and are pressed by the belt against the belt and the underlying tape pack.

Assignee: Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing Company
    Inventor: Robert A. von Behren
  • Patent number: 5358193
Abstract: A belt driven reel-to-reel tape cartridge includes two tape guides for guiding the tape to and from respective tape reels. The tape guides have a large radius of curvature and are flanged to form a long trough to guide and align the tape to improve tape tracking. This also provides hydrodynamic lift by creating an air film between the tape and the tape guide to reduce the friction between the tape backside and the tape guide. The radius of curvature can be constant or can vary from a larger radius at the ends to a smaller radius in the middle.

  • Patent number: 4581189
Abstract: In a tape which is driven by an elastic pretensioned belt, discontinuities such as embossings in the surface of the belt promote the release of air from between the belt and the underlying tape, thus minimizing variations in tape tension and tape speed.

  • Patent number: 4300179
Abstract: A composite magnetic head adapted to record and read records to and from a record carrier particularly suited to a multitrack record carrier, and more particularly suited to a multitrack magnetic tape. The composite magnetic head may be moved transversely with respect to the direction of movement of the record carrier so that head alignment with any one of multitracks of the record carrier may be achieved. The record carrier contacts the head assembly defining a scrub surface. A yoke is provided supporting a ferrite core containing an effective gap which permits the head to be physically mounted with respect to the record carrier.
