  • Patent number: 8974624
Abstract: A label applicator that includes an applicator housing having a flow chamber and a suction side. The suction side has one or more openings that allow air to pass therethrough. The label applicator also includes first and second air flow generators that are fluidly coupled with the flow chamber. The first and second air flow generators are configured to generate first and second air flows, respectively, through the flow chamber. The label applicator also includes a valve mechanism that is positioned in the flow chamber to direct the first and second air flows through the flow chamber of the applicator housing. The valve mechanism includes a diverter valve and an electric actuator. The actuator is configured to move the diverter valve within the flow chamber to different positions during a label application operation.

  • Patent number: 8602077
Abstract: A tamp pad includes a housing that defines an air flow chamber having an inflow opening and an outflow opening. The tamp pad further includes an impact plate having one or more openings therethrough that are in fluid communication with the air flow chamber and an air flow generator fluidly coupled to the air flow chamber for generating an air flow in a first direction. The tamp pad has a valve system for directing the air flow generated by the air flow generator to draw air into the one or more openings to hold a label thereon and to blow air out of the one or more openings to eject the label from the impact plate.

  • Patent number: 6817397
Abstract: A swivel mount is configured for use with a tamp pad for a label applicator of the type for receiving a label at a first retracted position and applying the label to an object at a second, extended position. The mount includes a mounting block for fastening to the tamp pad. The mounting block has a bore therein having an inner, open cross-sectional region and a retaining region. A knuckle fitting is received within the bore and is engageable with the retaining region. The knuckle fitting has a largest cross-sectional area that is larger than the open cross-sectional area of the retaining region such that a portion of the knuckle fitting is retained within the bore. A spring is positioned to provide a force against the knuckle fitting against the retaining region. The mount permits movement of the tamp pad from an orientation perpendicular to a direction of movement between the retracted and extended positions to an orientation inclined relative to the direction of movement.
