  • Patent number: 4981281
Abstract: A remotely controllable fluid valve includes a solenoid-armature arrangement which functions as an electro-magnetic spring having improved force-displacement characteristics over a mechanical spring. The solenoid magnetizes a pair of axially spaced, sleevelike field poles. The armature is so shaped and initially positioned relative to the field poles that: as the armature, supported in one pole, moves further into the other pole, the axial magnetic force thereon decreases at a decreasing rate with the rate of decrease being greater at higher levels of solnoid energization.

  • Patent number: 4944328
Abstract: A normally open pilot pressure relief valve wherein the opening pressure can be readily controlled by small amounts of electrical power, which does not employ a spring, has improved pressure versus flow characteristics at both high and low pressures. The solenoid-armature magnetic circuit is so configured that: in the designed range of valve opening movement, the magnetic force-displacement curve of the armature has a slope which increases with increasing amounts of solenoid energization. The relieved fluid flows through a longitudinal passage in the armature creating an opening flow force to compensate for the Bernoulli effect at the valve seat as the valve opens. Adjustment means are provided for accurately positioning the armature in its magnetic circuit to compensate for manufacturing tolerances.

  • Patent number: 4596271
Abstract: A fluid pressure actuated valve wherein a relatively low powered analog electrical signal accurately controls the position of the output member of a fluid pressure powered actuator which in turn can be used to exert mechanical forces or operate mechanical devices such as fluid pumps, motors or valves. Inlet and outlet passages communicate a pressure chamber to high and low pressures respectively. A control element totally within the chamber so as to have balanced pressure forces thereon and made of a magnetically sensitive material is moved to a fixed position in the chamber proportional to the strength of an externally generated magnetic field. At least one of the passages moves with the output member so as to be opened or closed by the control element relative to the other passage. The output member follows the control element automatically varying the pressure in the chamber to compensate for any variations in the external forces thereon.

  • Patent number: 4553735
Abstract: A solenoid operated, direct acting, poppet style two-way valve wherein the fluid pressures on the valve member are completely balanced, a low power electrical signal is required to control its opening and the design features are such as to permit a valve of minimum size and which can be manufactured at a minimum cost. The valve housing and valve member are each manufactured from tubing, each with one end formed radially inwardly by a spinning process to provide a valve seat and valve seat engaging surface respectively. The valve member has a through passage and the end remote from the valve seat engaging end slides on a fixed piston having a cross-sectional area equal to the area of the valve seat such that the valve member is in complete axial pressure balance. The valve member includes a support member and an elongated flexible stem extending therefrom on the free end of which the valve seat engaging surface is located whereby the valve seat can be self-aligning with its valve seat.

  • Patent number: 4553732
Abstract: A pilot operated flow regulating valve which can be remotely controlled by varying the energization to a solenoid. The valve consists of a normally-closed, spring-biased, pressure-differential-actuated, main valve element and a pressure-compensated, pilot flow valve employing a solenoid acting like a remotely controllable electromagnetic spring to control the flow of fluid through the pilot valve and the pressure difference across the main valve element.
