  • Patent number: 5567185
Abstract: A method for making an electrical connector comprises the steps of configuring a housing and contact members such that the contact members may assume positions in the housing which are variable for each contact member and of assembling the contact members in the housing such that they assume positions therein giving rise to contact member coplanarity. An electrical connector so made comprises a housing defining contact member receiving channels and contact members resident in the channels, the contact members defining contact portions and contact member retaining means, the housing being configured to permit variable positioning of said contact member retaining means therein, whereby contact member contact portions may be coplanarly positioned irrespective of warp present in the housing.

  • Patent number: 4992061
Abstract: An improved electrical filter connector comprises a capacitor sub-assembly including an insulative substrate, a plurality of capacitors soldered thereto and a ground spring. The ground spring is soldered to the ground terminations of the capacitors, the ground spring having a resilient portion for electrical engagement with conductive ground traces on a system circuit board. First terminations of the capacitors are electrically individually connected to respective contacts of the electrical connector. Second capacitor terminations are electrically connected to the ground strip. The capacitors are preferably of the discrete, monolithic chip type, having a dielectric body spaced between the electrical terminations thereof. A quantity of curable dielectric material is disposed on the dielectric bodies between each of the capacitor terminations to provide an enhanced dielectric medium to increase the capability of the connectors to withstand higher voltages during power surges.

  • Patent number: 4930200
Abstract: An improved method of making an electrical filter connector includes the steps of providing a substrate with a plurality of metallized openings therethrough for electrical individual attachment to electrical contacts of the connector. The substrate is further provided with a metallized strip on a surface thereof spaced from the metallized openings. A plurality of capacitors are attached to the substrate. First conductive capacitor terminations are individually electrically attached to respective portions of the metallized openings and second conductive capacitor terminations are electrically attached in common to the metallized strip. A curable dielectric material is applied onto the dielectric body of each capacitor between each of the conductive terminations thereof. Each of the electrical contacts of the connector is electrically attached to a respective one of the metallized openings of the substrate.

  • Patent number: 4624515
Abstract: An electrical connector for terminating shielded flat multi-conductor cable is divided. The connector includes a housing having a metal connector shell. A conductive clip is provided which engages in unison contacts of the connector associated with the ground conductors of the cable. The conductive clip also engages the metal shell of the connector housing. The conductive clip provides a ground reference for the connector and for the cable at its terminated end.

  • Patent number: 4619487
Abstract: An electrical connector for terminating shielded flat multi-conductor cable. The connector includes a housing having a metal connector shell. A conductive spring clip is provided which contacts the metallic shielding of the cable and the metal shell of the connector housing. The conductive spring clip provides shielding for the cable at its terminated end.

  • Patent number: 4561179
Abstract: A terminal (20; 20') comprised of a tubular metal sleeve (23; 33') includes four insulation slicing-conductor penetrating fins (26; 42) and a coaxially disposed conductor penetrating conical spike (32, 40) to provide a redundant electromechanical connection with a center conductor (16) of a wire (10), the fins extending longitudinally along and radially inward from the interior wall (24A) of the sleeve (23; 33') to terminate in a penetrating point (26p; 44) and the conical spike (32, 40) terminating in a point (32A; 45A) for impaling itself into the center conductor (16), the fins longitudinally slicing through the wire insulation (12) to expose the conductor (16) and the conical spike (32; 40) simultaneously impaling itself into the center of the conductor to expand the conductor and the sliced insulation radially outward, inward radial crimping of the sleeve driving the fins into the conductor and press-fitting the insulation segments against the sleeve to form a mechanical fitment therewith.
