  • Patent number: 4761831
Abstract: In a digital optical submersible repeater the electronic and opto-electronic components are housed in an hermetically sealed modular assembly (20, 60, 70) of a first regenerator module (20) for one fibre (7, 6a), a second regenerator module (60) for the second fibre (6, 7a) of the pair of fibres, and a power module (70) for extracting power from the power feed conductor of the cable. In each regenerator module (20) the transmit laser (8) and the receive PINFET diode are on diametrically opposed faces, and power feed and optical signal feed are disposed in spaces between the modules and the inside surface of the repeater housing (1). The modular assembly is resiliently secured to the bulkhead (2).
    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 17, 1986
Date of Patent: August 2, 1988
Assignee: Standard Telephones and Cables Public Limited Company
Inventors: Arthur A. Davis, Robert W. Eady
  • Patent number: 4679250
Abstract: An optical repeater for a submersible transmission system has a steel housing and a modular assembly carrying the electronic and opto-electronic components. Each module (20) of the assembly has heat conductive electrically insulating devices (30 to 33) secured to the periphery of the module (20) and embracing the inner surface of the housing (1). Each device comprises a resiliently biassed metal element (44).
    Type: Grant
    Filed: January 18, 1985
Date of Patent: July 7, 1987
Assignee: Standard Telephones and Cables plc
Inventors: Aurthur A. Davis, Robert W. Eady
