Patent number: 8559967Abstract: A system and method for enforcing network policies is disclosed. Data is captured from network interfaces. A cell congestion level is determined from the captured data. Cells having a congestion level above a first threshold are identified. A first alert is transmitted to a network policy management entity when the cell is above the first threshold. Cells having a congestion level above a second threshold are identified. A second alert is transmitted to the network policy management entity when the cell is above the second threshold. The first threshold set at a point below a maximum capacity of the cell, and the second threshold set at a point near or at the maximum capacity of the cell.Type: GrantFiled: August 27, 2010Date of Patent: October 15, 2013Assignee: Tektronix, Inc.Inventors: Robert W. Patent number: 8004969Abstract: A system and method for transmitting data packets to a wireless client is shown. The data packets are received by a wireless content switch in the wireless network. The wireless content switch determines a quality of service value for the wireless client. The wireless content switch assigns the priority of transmission for the data packet based on the assigned quality of service value. The data packet is transmitted according to the priority.Type: GrantFiled: November 7, 2002Date of Patent: August 23, 2011Assignee: Tektronix, Inc.Inventors: Robert W. Froehlich, Rangaprasad Govindarajan, Jogen K Pathak, Vyankatesh Shanbhag

Publication number: 20110141924Abstract: A system and method for monitoring IP flows in a telecommunications network is disclosed. Data packets are captured from the links in the telecommunications network via a plurality of monitoring probes. The data packets are filtered, using an interface processor, to classify the data packets by subscriber identification and link identification to create classified packets. The classified packets are filtered by application, using a packet processor, to create call session records. A subscriber record is created, using a subscriber session processor, the subscriber record binding subscriber information from the call session records, the subscriber record comprising a plurality of fields including a high value tag. One or more of the network nodes are controlled using a configuration manager according to policy rules that correspond to the high value tag.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 16, 2009Publication date: June 16, 2011Applicant: Tektronix Inc.Inventors: Robert W. Froehlich, Seshu Dommaraju

Publication number: 20030031161Abstract: An apparatus and method for controlling a wireless terminal and a destination terminal with a wireless content switch in a wireless packet data network. The wireless content switch monitors data packets and acknowledgments transmitted to and from the wireless terminal and the destination terminal. The wireless content switch detects disruptions in the wireless packet data network and sends a transmission to the terminal remaining in communication with the wireless content switch to place the remaining terminal in a wait state. The wireless content switch then monitors and detects an improvement in the wireless packet data network. After the wireless content switch detects an improvement, the wireless content switch resumes the session, continuing transmission from the point which the disruption occurred.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 7, 2002Publication date: February 13, 2003Inventors: Robert W. Froehlich, Shridhar Krishnamurthy

Publication number: 20020073182Abstract: A Smart DHCP Relay server is formed for receiving all IP address requests, to determine the ISP to which the request should be forwarded, and then to forward the request to the ISP. Accordingly, when the ISP responds, the Smart DHCP Relay generates an IP address for delivery to the user terminal that initiated the request. The user terminal, upon receiving the one response, automatically loads the IP address for use whenever access to the Internet by way of the ISP equipment is desired. The system includes a gateway device that forwards all address requests (DHCPDISCOVER). The Smart DHCP Relay includes a database that maps MAC addresses with corresponding selected IP addresses from a number of ISPs offering a service to the subscribers. The duration that the MAC address is assigned to the IP address provided by the selected ISP is variable. It may be made to last only for a specified session or period. Alternatively, it can be made to last indefinitely.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 8, 2000Publication date: June 13, 2002Inventors: Maxim V. Zakurdaev, Robert W. Froehlich, Dinesh Pai, Stephane S. Patent number: 5445308Abstract: A method of providing a thermally conductive connection between spaced surfaces includes (a) mixing a thermally conductive filler containing a liquid metal into an unhardened matrix material, and (b) contacting the unhardened matrix material and randomly dispersed, separate spaced non-solidified regions of filler within the unhardened matrix material to the surfaces. A solid mechanical bond may be provided by hardening the matrix material or by providing a separate adhesive between the surfaces. Preferably, the regions of filler form separate spaced continuous thermally and electrically conductive paths between the surfaces.Type: GrantFiled: June 22, 1994Date of Patent: August 29, 1995Inventors: Richard D. Nelson, Thomas P. Dolbear, Robert W. Froehlich

Patent number: 5328087Abstract: The present invention discloses a thermally and electrically conductive adhesive material comprising a hardened adhesive, and a non-solidified filler containing a liquid metal dispersed in separate spaced regions of the adhesive. The hardened adhesive provides a mechanical bond whereas the filler provides continuous thermal and electrical metal bridges, each bridge extending through the adhesive and contacting the bonded surfaces. The method includes (a) dispersing a filler containing a liquid metal into an unhardened adhesive, (b) contacting the unhardened adhesive and the filler in non-solidified state to the surfaces resulting in separate spaced regions of the non-solidified filler contacting both surfaces, and (c) hardening the adhesive.Type: GrantFiled: March 29, 1993Date of Patent: July 12, 1994Assignee: Microelectronics and Computer Technology CorporationInventors: Richard D.
