Abstract: An engine system configured to adjust an output torque generated by the engine system in response to anticipated changes in a condition of a load. The engine system includes a load predictor, an air supply system, a fuel supply system, and an electronic control unit. The electronic control unit is configured to adjust the quantity of air and/or exhaust provided to an inlet manifold of an engine and to thereafter adjust the quantity of fuel delivered to the engine for a predetermined period of time. The delivery of the quantity of fuel is delayed from the adjustment to the quantity of air and/or exhaust to provide a torque boost responsive to the anticipated changes in the condition of the load. Fuel costs are reduced and the engine operates more smoothly in response to load changes.
