  • Patent number: 6116559
Abstract: An apparatus for connecting a downrod to a mounting assembly and a motor housing of a fan. The mounting assembly and the motor housing are capable of receiving a differently sized downrod. The apparatus comprises a pair of adapters. The adapters each have a first end that engages an end of the downrod; a second end that engages either the mounting assembly or the motor housing; and a hollow interior extending between said first and second ends. In one alternative embodiment, the first end receives the downrod and includes: a pair of aligned apertures; and an aperture disposed between the pair of aligned apertures. The second end is threaded and engages either the mounting assembly or the motor housing. The second end includes a pair of aligned apertures on opposite sides thereof. The apparatus also includes a pair of pins to insert through the aligned apertures and a pair of fasteners for securing the downrod within the adapter. In another alternative embodiment, the first end inserts within the downrod.

  • Patent number: 6017190
Abstract: An apparatus for detachable connection of a ceiling fan motor housing to a ceiling mounting assembly. The ceiling fan downrod provides a standardized elongated tube that is connectable to a multitude of ceiling fan housings and assemblies, and provides a universal ground wire connection through a plurality of holes for electrical grounding of the apparatus. The downrod is an elongated tube with a hollow center, having a plurality of pairs of holes near each end of the downrod. Each open end of the downrod has a plurality of threads on the exterior surface of each end, the threads providing one connecting method to attach one end of the downrod to a ceiling mounting assembly, and the second end of the downrod to a motor housing of the ceiling fan. The downrod provides numerous options for connecting the downrod to ceiling fan assemblies, and provides versatility for attachment of electrical ground wires through the plurality of holes in the downrod.

  • Patent number: 5988495
Abstract: A nestable mailbox (10) having a tapered body (12) with an open first end (24) and a second end (30). The tapering of the body (12) is such that the first end (24) circumscribes a greater surface area than that circumscribed by the second end (30). A door (26) for the mailbox (10) is connected to the body (12) at the first end (24). The mailbox can then be nested with other like mailboxes by inserting the second end (30) of one mailbox into the first end (24) of another mailbox. The door of each mailbox in the nested arrangement can point downwardly frontwardly or downwardly rearwardly. The nestable mailbox may additionally, if desired, carry another door (76) at the second end (30).

  • Patent number: 5975853
Abstract: A cover for an aperture in a ceiling having a shell and a back panel. The shell includes: a wall; an interior portion; and an exterior portion. The interior portion has a tubular hub extending from the wall; fins extending from the wall and from the hub; and blocks extending from the wall. The hub has a central aperture and a distal end with a flange. The exterior portion has a recess cooperating with the hub on the interior portion. The back panel is nestable within the interior portion of the shell. The back panel has an aperture cooperating with the hub on the shell when the back panel nests within the interior portion of the shell. In such an arrangement, the back panel sits on upper surfaces of the fins and blocks. In order to attach to the ceiling, either the recess on the interior portion of the shell or the recess on the exterior portion of the shell is positioned between the mounting plate and the junction box.

  • Patent number: 4756108
Abstract: The present invention comprises a frame which has a transparent window, such as glass, secured within it. The frame is attached at the bottom by hinges to vertical support members which are to be mounted to the wall or other surface where the display frame is to be installed. As a result, when in place, the frame moves downward when opened. A damping device is connected between the frame portion and a support member to greatly restrict the speed of movement of the frame and to provide support for the frame as it is opened. Preferably, the frame is held open in a generally horizontal position by the limit of travel in the damper.
