  • Patent number: 6517847
Abstract: A composition is provided that has a viscosity of less than about 15,000 cP and a pH of about 3.0 to 9.0 for treating a skin disorder in a human subject. The composition is a lotion that consists essentially of (a) a therapeutically-effective amount of at least one compound useful for treating such disorder, (b) a pharmaceutically-acceptable, lightly cross-linked polyacrylic acid polymer compatible with the compound, (c) a pharmaceutically acceptable base to adjust pH, (d) up to about 25% ww of at least one water miscible solvent, (e) optionally a preservative, (f) water, and (g) an oil phase component and suitable surfactant. The composition is useful for treating an inflammatory skin disorder, acne, or rosacea.
    Type: Grant

  • Publication number: 20030008914
Abstract: A pharmaceutical formulation is provided for the treatment of inflammatory and/or immune disorders, particularly those mediated by platelet activating factor (“PAF”) or a product of 5-lipoxygenase. The formulation, in one embodiment, is an essentially anhydrous ointment containing an active agent selected from the group consisting of 2,5-diaryl tetrahydrofurans, 2,5-diaryl tetrahydrothiophenes, 2,4-diaryl tetrahydrofurans, 2,4-diaryl tetrahydrothiophenes, 1,3-diaryl cyclopentanes, 2,4-diaryl pyrrolidines, and 2,5-diaryl pyrrolidines, and an enhancer composition containing one or more C3-18 esters such as diethyl succinate, propylene carbonate, diisopropyl adipate and glyceryl triacetate. In another embodiment, the formulation is a cream, gel, lotion, oil, or the like, containing the: active agent in crystalline form. The invention also encompasses the novel crystalline form of the active agent, and methods for using the formulations to treat individuals with inflammatory and/or immune disorders.

The low viscosity composition has an advantage of being administered more accurately when combined with a container that administers the composition as drops.
