  • Patent number: 5007309
Abstract: A control system for an automatic transmission of a vehicle with a fluid torque converter having a bypass clutch, and a change gear assembly providing a variety of ratio changes on selective actuation of a plurality of friction engaging elements of the change gear assembly. The control system provides the selective engagement of three friction elements and the bypass clutch through the selective energization and de-energization of two solenoid operated valves and the selective actuation and de-actuation of three shift control valves.

  • Patent number: 4934495
Abstract: A hydrodynamic torque converter comprises an input shaft, first and second output shafts, an impeller driven by the input shaft, primary and secondary turbines arranged to drive the first and second output shafts respectively, a stator, and first and second clutch elements arranged to provide a direct drive to the first and second output shafts from the input shaft of the torque converter.

  • Patent number: 4489626
Abstract: A lubrication system is for a planetary gear system of the type which includes an input shaft for driving an output shaft through a planetary gear reducer. The system includes an oil pump driven by the input shaft to provide lubricating oil to the input shaft bearings and a first chamber defined by a running seal between a ring gear wheel on the input shaft and the housing. A passage through the ring gear wheel allows lubricating oil to be received from the first chamber to a second chamber which is generally defined by a second annular running seal between the ring gear wheel and the planetary carrier. Passages through the planetary carrier allow delivery of the lubricating oil under pressure from the second chamber to the planetary gears and the sun gear.

  • Patent number: 4459208
Abstract: A filter system is for a power transmitting device which has an oil pump to draw lubricating oil through an oil passage from an oil sump in the housing thereof. A chamber is provided in the housing to intersect the oil passage and is partially below the normal level of the lubricating oil in the oil sump. A filter device is installed in the chamber for filtering the lubricating oil. An access cover for the chamber is above the normal level of lubricating oil to allow installation, removal and inspection of the filter and verification of the lubricating oil level.

  • Patent number: 3985063
Abstract: An accumulator structure for use in a hydraulic control system for controlling an hydraulic motor utilized to engage a friction device in a transmission including an accumulator piston mounted in a housing, a source of fluid pressure, a valve connected between the source and the motor. A first conduit connects the valve and motor, the first conduit including a fluid restriction, and a second conduit connects the valve and the accumulator. A third conduit is provided between the accumulator and the first conduit. The accumulator includes a counter-bored portion defining together with a reduced land portion on said piston, a passage which connects the second conduit to the third conduit when the piston is in the inactive position to provide a rapid fluid fill of the motor initially.

  • Patent number: 3951011
Abstract: An hydraulic control system for an automatic transmission having a plurality of friction engageable devices to produce a plurality of drive ratios by selective engagement thereof, two of the engageable devices comprising friction brakes engageable to establish a second speed drive ratio through the transmission, and conduit means connecting a source of pressure to each of the brake devices and to an hydraulic accumulator. The conduit means has a first branch connected to one of the brake devices, a second branch connected to a second of the brake devices, and a logic valve is provided in the conduit means between the branches adapted to interconnect the branches and the respective servomotors for engaging the brake devices, providing equalization of the pressures at the brake devices whereby they are engaged with identical engaging force.
