  • Patent number: 4487260
Abstract: A procedure is described for producing hydrocarbons from hydrocarbon-bearing formations including shale oil from an oil shale body wherein combinations of vertical and slant holes are drilled into the shale body, and an alternating sequence of fracturing and production by in situ combustion is performed between those holes.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 1, 1984
Date of Patent: December 11, 1984
    Assignee: Texaco Inc.
Inventors: Robert W. Pittman, Marc F. Fontaine
  • Patent number: 4251191
Abstract: A method for lifting oil from the bottom of a well comprises, (1) injecting a fluid of less specific gravity into the well with a fluid flow control valve, and (2) equalizing the fluid pressure on all sides thereof for making the fluid flow control valve balanced and frictionless as the fluid of less specific gravity is ejected thus requiring a minimum of energy for operation thereof for providing a highly efficient lifting of the oil in the well.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 11, 1979
Date of Patent: February 17, 1981
    Assignee: Texaco Inc.
Inventors: John C. Gass, Noell C. Kerr, Robert W. Pittman
  • Patent number: 4149829
Abstract: An improved conventional type of gas lift valve and mandrel combination. It has a large area screen which encloses the valve and prevents it from having the inlet port and/or its integral small area screen, become plugged.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 6, 1978
Date of Patent: April 17, 1979
    Assignee: Texaco Inc.
Inventors: Robert W. Pittman, Noell C. Kerr
  • Patent number: 4064749
Abstract: A method and/or system for measuring formation porosity from drilling response. It involves measuring a number of drilling parameters and includes determination of tooth dullness as well as determining a reference torque empirically. One of the drilling parameters is the torque applied to the drill string.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: November 11, 1976
Date of Patent: December 27, 1977
    Assignee: Texaco Inc.
Inventors: Robert W. Pittman, Chester E. Hermes
