Patent number: 5591979Abstract: A device and method for locating an electret in an electret-type radon gas detector, so it is wrinkle free, uses a sloped pedestal over which the electret sheet is placed. A ring with a beveled interior surface and a minor diameter smaller than the top of the pedestal is forced down over the electret sheet and pedestal, and into a groove surrounding the pedestal formed by a wall projecting from the base of the device. The movement of the ring causes the electret to stretch and eliminates any wrinkles. Also, forcing the ring over the pedestal causes the ring to rotate about its circular centroid axis and to dig into the walls of the groove, thus locking the assembly together.Type: GrantFiled: September 23, 1994Date of Patent: January 7, 1997Assignee: Radon Testing Corporation of AmericaInventor: Robert W. Ramsey

Patent number: 4992658Abstract: An electret ion chamber for monitoring radon comprises a housing having an electret holder and a cover. The cover is attached to a plunger which closes over the electret when the cover is in place and is removed from the electret when the cover is opened. The plunger effectively turns "on" and "off" the radon monitor with the opening and closing of the cap. In very short term and very long term radon monitors, this turn on and off feature is not needed.Type: GrantFiled: September 20, 1989Date of Patent: February 12, 1991Assignee: Rad Elec Inc.Inventors: Robert W. Ramsey, Jr., Payasada Kotrappa

Patent number: 4669506Abstract: A resilient transverse partition for a substantially cylindrical body such as a drum or a pipe, wherein a plurality of narrow elongated leaves of thin resilient material and equal length are co-joined in an overlapping fanned array about a common center with their ends slideable with respect to one another and congruent with a circle of slightly greater diameter than said body, so that the array of leaves can be forced into the body transversely and coaxially therewithin and deformed into a concavo-convex domes partition resilient to axial displacement from forces acting on its convex side.Type: GrantFiled: February 5, 1986Date of Patent: June 2, 1987Assignee: Nuclear Energy Systems, Inc.Inventor: Robert W. Ramsey, Jr.
-
Patent number: 4549845Abstract: A method and apparatus for gently holding, lifting and rotating a drum which may contain hazardous waste and may be likely to rupture, characterized in that an open-ended overpack is lowered around the drum and held fixed in relation to the floor while a platform slides beneath the overpack and drum, the overpack then being clamped by a lid against the platform and then elevated and rotated so that the drum therewithin is disposed in an upside-down position.Type: GrantFiled: August 25, 1983Date of Patent: October 29, 1985Assignee: Automation Industries, Inc.Inventor: Robert W. Ramsey, Jr.

Patent number: 4045973Abstract: A control system for a central air conditioner. The air conditioner includes an outdoor condensing unit including a refrigerant compressor, an indoor evaporator unit, an indoor thermostat responsive to the indoor temperature for controlling the air conditioner, and a control system for protecting the air conditioner and indicating to the user certain malfunctions in the air conditioner should they occur. The malfunction indication may be by means of signal lights and a manually operable reset control is provided permitting the user to reset the control system. The malfunction indicator and reset control are disposed adjacent the thermostat for facilitated determination of the system operating condition. The control system includes an improved control portion for starting of the compressor motor which is arranged to prevent operation of the system in the event of a low power supply voltage condition.Type: GrantFiled: December 29, 1975Date of Patent: September 6, 1977Assignee: Heil-Quaker CorporationInventors: Richard M. Anderson, Robert S. McGill, III, Robert W. Ramsey
