  • Patent number: 5197456
Abstract: A water heater comprising a tank defining a water chamber, a generally cylindrical combustion chamber located beneath the water chamber and centered on a generally vertical axis, a plurality of flues communicating with the combustion chamber and extending through the water chamber, and a single power burner for directing a flame into the combustion chamber. The power burner includes a nozzle centered on a generally horizontal axis intersecting the chamber axis. A flame deflector made of a refractory material is located in the combustion chamber. The flame deflector has a substantially hemispherical upper portion and a generally cylindrical lower portion centered on a common, generally vertical axis.

  • Patent number: 4978293
Abstract: A nozzle mix, open power burner includes an air housing for receiving pressurized air from a blower. A flame retention plate including a plurality of openings therein is adapted for placement at the outlet of the air housing, so that air supplied to the housing is outletted therefrom through the flame retention plate openings. A gas tube extends through the air housing and includes a gas discharge outlet downstream of the flame retention plate. Gas is discharged from the gas outlet in a direction radially outwardly relative to the longitudinal axis of the gas tube, so that gas is discharged into the flow path of air passing through the flame retention plate. A hot surface igniter is provided downstream of the flame retention plate for igniting the mixed gas and air.

  • Patent number: 4898124
Abstract: A scale agitator for tank type liquid heaters employs a flexible non-cathodic tube through which liquid can flow. The liquid can be obtained from the tank or the supply of makeup liquid to be heated can be used. The tube may be fastened to a clean-out cover mounted to the exterior of the tank so that the tube can be inserted into and removed from the tank through the opening behind the clean-out cover.

  • Patent number: 4131413
Abstract: A self-contained electric igniter in which the ignition pilot is actuated by a rechargeable battery to supply energy for the spark provided by an igniter. All energy for opening the valve of the main gas valve is supplied by a millivolt thermopile generator which together with additional thermopiles charges the battery. A diode is located in the battery charging line to prevent reverse flow of current from the battery to the thermopiles. The system has a safety valve which closes off flow of gas into the system in the event the pilot burner fails to ignite and a flame switch which closes off the flow of current to the main gas valve and consequent flow of gas into the system in the event the pilot burner is extinguished. It also has a damper control system which is closed when the system is shut off to reduce stand-by losses and conserve energy.
