Publication number: 20120017432Abstract: A tool for installing compression connectors of various sizes and types on the end of a coaxial cable has a base mounting a pair of movable anvils for engaging two different lengths of connectors. The base further incorporates a fixed anvil for engaging a third length of connector. The movable anvils define an aperture which is shaped to permit easy entry and exit of a cable while still applying a suitable retention force to an inserted cable. A connector seating holder is formed in the front of the tool. A slidably mounted plunger cooperates with the anvils to compress a connector. The plunger has a push head and a slide rod. A lock nut is threaded on the push head and is engageable with the slide rod to prevent rotation of the push head.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 29, 2011Publication date: January 26, 2012Applicant: IDEAL INDUSTRIES, INC.Inventors: Robert W. Sutter, Stephen J. Skeels

Patent number: 7914326Abstract: A coaxial cable connector is provided with a generally tubular mandrel. An attachment element and a retainer are associated with the mandrel and a bushing is telescopically mounted on the retainer. The bushing is adapted for axial movement along the retainer to a closed position wherein the bushing biases a first portion of the retainer into sealing engagement with a seating surface on the exterior of the mandrel. The retainer is sufficiently translucent to permit visual observation of a cable inserted into the retainer.Type: GrantFiled: July 16, 2009Date of Patent: March 29, 2011Assignee: IDEAL Industries, Inc.Inventor: Robert W. Patent number: 7797827Abstract: A method for installing compression connectors of various sizes and types on the end of a coaxial cable utilizes a tool having a base mounting a pair of movable anvils for engaging two different lengths of connectors. The movable anvils define an aperture which is shaped to permit easy entry and exit of a cable while still applying a suitable retention force to an inserted cable. A slidably mounted plunger cooperates with the anvils to compress a connector. One of the anvils has an aperture size that permits the anvil to squeeze or pinch an inserted cable and thereby restrain a cable longitudinally during initial seating of the connector onto a cable by means of the plunger.Type: GrantFiled: February 8, 2008Date of Patent: September 21, 2010Assignee: IDEAL Industries, Inc.Inventor: Robert W. Publication number: 20100139086Abstract: A tool for installing compression connectors of various sizes and types on the end of a coaxial cable has a base mounting a pair of movable anvils for engaging two different lengths of connectors. A slidably mounted plunger cooperates with the anvils to compress a connector. The plunger has a push head, an adjustment knob and a slide rod. The push head and adjustment knob are movable relative to one another and have first and second end faces with different outside diameters. An end face with the appropriate diameter for a particular connector can be placed in an operative position where it will engage a connector.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 16, 2010Publication date: June 10, 2010Inventors: Robert W. Sutter, Jeffrey R. Meader

Patent number: 7685702Abstract: A wire insertion tool for a push-in wire connector has a frame and a slide assembly mounted for reciprocating motion on the frame. The frame includes a carriage on which a push-in wire connector is mounted. The slide assembly carries a wire holder which mounts an electric wire opposite the wire connector. An actuator extends to advance the slide assembly and carry a wire in the holder in a direction parallel to the axis of the wire. Advancement of the wire holder inserts the wire into the connector. The wire holder is then released and the slide assembly is retracted to prepare for the next insertion cycle.Type: GrantFiled: August 7, 2007Date of Patent: March 30, 2010Assignee: IDEAL Industries, Inc.Inventors: Robert W. Sutter, David Niemi, Jacob C. Ward

Patent number: 7622675Abstract: A paint shield for covering an electrical device has a generally planar plate with an attachment element connected thereto. The attachment element releasably engages one or more of a standard wall switch, a decor type switch or a socket. At least one overspray wall on the rear face of the plate is spaced from the perimeter of the plate and extends from the plate to provide protection from paint or other surface treatments. The overspray wall may also serve as an attachment element. Blisters at or near the edges of the plate define receptacle for receiving a mounting screw head.Type: GrantFiled: March 23, 2007Date of Patent: November 24, 2009Assignee: IDEAL Industries, Inc.Inventor: Robert W. Sutter
