  • Patent number: 4776709
Abstract: A seal for a bearing having a housing with an opening therein for receiving a shaft in which a bearing assembly is mounted in the housing and has an inner race for receiving the shaft. A seal consisting of a ring having a radially extending, outwardly facing flat surface is disposed in the housing opening adjacent the inner race, and a seal which may be of the V-ring type is mounted on the inner race and has a lip which seats on and rubs against the radial surface of the ring. Collars may be used on the race to retain the lipped seal in proper relationship with the ring on the inner race. The relationship of the lip to the metal ring is such that the bearing assembly can be purged by the outward flowing of the lubricant yet protected from the ingress of foreign matter. In some modifications, an auxiliary seal, which is disposed externally with respect to the lipped seal, may be used.

  • Patent number: 4348067
Abstract: A seal for a bearing having a housing with an opening therein for receiving a shaft, in which a sleeve is disposed in the housing opening and has an axial bore therethrough for receiving a shaft. The sleeve has a labyrinth seal section having intermeshing annular grooves and ribs on the inner periphery of the housing opening, and a V-ring section disposed externally of the labyrinth section, the latter section having an annular sealing means mounted on the sleeve and having a lip for seating on an annular sealing surface on the housing.

  • Patent number: 3934953
Abstract: A shaft bearing including a bearing insert and a housing constructed of plastic and having a body and a retainer for the bearing insert, the plastic housing body and the retainer being integrally joined by an ultrasonic vibration method to fuse the interface between the two parts to form a unitary housing structure and secure the bearing insert in place in the bearing housing. The invention includes the method of assembling the plastic housing parts and bearing insert, and welding the housing body and the retainer by ultrasonic vibration to secure the bearing insert in place in the housing and conform the internal surface of the body and retainer to the adjacent external surface of the bearing insert.
