  • Patent number: 7743581
Abstract: A method of using an assembly and a method of finishing an uppermost course of siding installed at a corner of a building with a cornice molding. A cornice molding cap is provided as an accessory to cover or eliminate gaps created where cornice molding meets at a corner of a building. The cap covers gaps where cornice molding meets at a corner structure formed by two walls. The cap is particularly useful in exterior siding installations at corners not employing corner posts having receiver pockets for cladding material end edges.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 1, 2009
Date of Patent: June 29, 2010
    Assignee: CertainTeed Corporation

The cap covers gaps where cornice molding meets at a corner structure formed by two walls. The cap is particularly useful in exterior siding installations at corners not employing corner posts having receiver pockets for cladding material end edges. A method of finishing a corner molding installation is described, as is a system for finishing such installation, and an assembly including a unitary cornice molding corner cap.

  • Publication number: 20080028865
Abstract: The deflection of decking planks under load is tested using a portable deflection measurement instrument, after installation of the planks over spaced joists. The instrument has a bridge on support legs spaced to rest on the deck at points apart from a span between joists of one or more planks to be tested. The legs can rest on planks laterally adjacent to the plank(s) under test, so the bridge straddles over the plank, or the bridge can be cantilevered or can rest on the tested plank but at points beyond the span to be tested. A contact foot or tup is movably mounted on the bridge and coupled to a platform or similar receptacle by which weight is applied to the plank. The resulting displacement between rest and loaded states is measured using a distance scale, and applied as a function of the span length and loading criteria to assess the deck structure.

  • Patent number: 6715240
Abstract: Building panels are provided, for applying panels, such as siding, roofing or the like to studs, to roofing rafters, or the like, wherein indicia is provided along a panel, giving spaced-apart markings, for guiding one who is applying panels to a building surface, to the location of a next support capable of supporting the panel when a fastener is applied thereto, a fixed or pre-set distance from a support such as stud, roofing rafter or the like. Thus, when adjacent studs, rafters, or the like, are spaced apart a known distance, the indicia will serve to guide the installer to a location where a fastener will engage a support to which the panel is to be applied, even if the visual location of the underlying support is visually obscured, such as by means of a sheet building material between the structural support and the panel. The indicia may take on various forms.
