Patent number: 6655019Abstract: A device for aligning a PC board (2) on a manual press (50) for insertion of an electronic component (1) into an insertion zone (z). The device comprises a manually operated X-Y table, to which the PC-board (2) is secured. The X-Y table comprises an X carriage (40) movable along an X-axis and a Y carriage (11) movable along a Y-axis. Respective correction carriages (21,25) are movably mounted to each of the X and Y carriages. Respective correction carriages have corresponding correction motors for moving each of the correction carriages relative to the X and Y carriages. Encoders (17,18) are respectively connected to the X and Y carriages for detecting a position of the X and Y carriages. The encoders are connected to control units for operating correction motors of the correction carriages in response to a signal from the encoders indicating the position of the X and Y carriages.Type: GrantFiled: December 7, 2000Date of Patent: December 2, 2003Assignee: Framatome Connectors InternationalInventor: Robert A. Patent number: 6094264Abstract: The method and apparatus comprise a pick-up and insertion head (1) movable along a predetermined direction (Y-axis) between a pick-up area (3) provided for electronic components bearing an array of contact pins (6) and a printed circuit board (20), whereby during the movement of the pick-up and insertion head (1), having picked up a component provided with contact pins (6) from the pick-up area (3), between the pick-up area (3) and the printed circuit board (20), the position of the contact pins along the Y-axis are detected by means of a first laser beam (7) determining the actual position of each pin along said Y-axis as a first array of data, almost at the same time the position of the contact pins along the X-axis are detected by means of a second laser beam (13) determining the actual position of each pin along the X-axis as a second array of data; by means of said two arrays of data, the mean center position of each pin can subsequently be computed and compared with the normal allowable center positionType: GrantFiled: November 3, 1998Date of Patent: July 25, 2000Assignee: Framatome Connectors InternationalInventor: Robert A. Patent number: 5924192Abstract: The electronic components, provided with a series of contact pins, are picked up out of a feed unit (50) by a pickup-and-insertion head (20) which travels along the Y axis to above a table (12) on which is mounted the printed circuit board, and which can travel along the X axis. The series of contact pins are pushed into the corresponding holes in the board after a visual inspection of the position of the contact pins and holes has been carried out. This visual inspection is carried out by a camera (70) which is fixed-mounted between the feed unit and the table (12), and by a camera (80) which is mounted in the vicinity of the head (20) and which can travel with said head.Type: GrantFiled: October 30, 1996Date of Patent: July 20, 1999Assignee: Framatome Connectors InternationalInventor: Robert A. Patent number: 5751847Abstract: A method for determining the color or color code of an object uses for example a color camera for making a color picture of the object. For a plurality of pixels of the color picture of the object distributed over the surface of the object, the S-, H- and B-values of the color picture are determined and the color is determined by comparison of these S-, H- and B-values with predetermined reference values. The B-value of each pixel is compared with a first reference value determining whether a pixel is black or not, whereafter, if the pixel is not black, the S-value of each pixel is then compared with a second reference value determining whether a pixel is colorless or not, whereafter, if the pixel is not colorless, the color of each pixel is determined by means of the H-value.Type: GrantFiled: September 10, 1996Date of Patent: May 12, 1998Assignee: Framatome Connectors InternationalInventor: Robert Wuyts
