Publication number: 20240407341Abstract: The invention pertains to the technical fields of bioanalytics and agriculture, and relates to a method and to an assembly for in-ovo sexing of bird eggs. The aim of the present invention is to provide a method and an assembly by means of which in-ovo sexing of bird eggs is achieved with a stable predictive accuracy of the sex and which are simple and cost-effective. The aim is achieved using a method and an assembly in which a fertilised bird egg incubated for 3 to 9 days is irradiated with at least two light-emitting laser beam sources with different excitation waves after the shell is opened, the captured and processed fluorescence scattering spectra and Raman scattering spectra being used, as complementary spectra associated with the different excitation wavelengths, to determine a classification value, and the sex being determined by comparing the determined classification value with an intrinsically determined threshold value. The method and the assembly can be used for sexing farm poultry.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 24, 2022Publication date: December 12, 2024Applicant: TECHNISCHE UNIVERSITÄT DRESDENInventors: Gerald STEINER, Edmund KOCH, Christian SCHNABEL, Grit PREUSSE, Roberta GALLI

Patent number: 11536704Abstract: To determine the sex of a bird egg, a hole is produced at the blunt end of the bird egg, wherein the hole affects the calcareous shell and the outer shell membrane, whereas the inner shell membrane remains intact. In the region of the hole at the blunt end, beneath the intact inner shell membrane, at least one blood vessel is registered and the blood therein is excited by means of a preset incident radiation, the back-scattered radiation of which blood is measured, detected and evaluated for the sex determination.Type: GrantFiled: October 26, 2017Date of Patent: December 27, 2022Assignee: TECHNISCHE UNIVERSITÄT DRESDENInventors: Gerald Steiner, Grit Preusse, Edmund Koch, Roberta Galli, Christian Schnabel

Patent number: 11378565Abstract: A method for in-ova fertilisation determination and gender determination on a closed egg. The aim is to specify a method for the in-ovo fertilisation determination and gender determination on a closed egg. This aim is achieved by a method in which a closed egg is positioned, candled and/or illuminated, next an image of the closed egg is recorded, then the captured data are evaluated and the position of the cardiovascular system located in the egg is calculated. A detection unit is adjusted via the calculated position of the cardiovascular system by means of a positioning unit and subsequently the blood is stimulated, then the blood-specific and blood-foreign absorption spectra are detected and selected, the fertilisation is ascertained and then the spectra containing blood-foreign information are compensated by a compensation method and the spectra are classified for sex determination.Type: GrantFiled: March 8, 2019Date of Patent: July 5, 2022Assignee: Technische Universität DresdenInventors: Grit Preusse, Gerald Steiner, Roberta Galli, Edmund Koch, Christian Schnabel

Patent number: 10852284Abstract: Method and a device for the optical in ovo sex determination of fertilized and incubated birds' eggs. The method includes monitoring formation of at least one identifiable blood vessel, creating a hole in the shell of the egg, finding and irradiating the blood vessel with at least one laser beam source emitting an excitation wavelength, recording backscatter radiation of the irradiated blood vessel and evaluating backscatter radiation from recorded spectral intensity of fluorescence radiation in a spectral range redshifted to an excitation wavelength. Sex-specific properties of male and female blood are contained in the intensity and spectral profile of the recorded fluorescence radiation. where intensity levels for male blood has an evaluable value distinct from that of female blood. Further, determining the sex of the bird egg from difference values of the fluorescence intensity and displaying the sex determined for the embryo in the egg.Type: GrantFiled: March 20, 2017Date of Patent: December 1, 2020Assignee: TECHNISCHE UNIVERSITÄT DRESDENInventors: Gerald Steiner, Grit Preusse, Roberta Galli, Edmund Koch
