    Abstract: An adapter of a brake system includes a body that extends around a portion of an axle of a vehicle system. The body may include an interior portion that is positioned between a center passage of the body and an exterior portion of the body in a radial direction away from the center passage. A hub coupling feature is positioned on the interior portion of the body and may be coupled with a portion of a wheel hub of the vehicle system. A brake disc coupling feature is positioned on the exterior portion of the body and may be coupled with a portion of a brake disc assembly. The wheel hub and the brake disc assembly are incompatible such that the wheel hub is prohibited from being directly coupled with the brake disc assembly.

Each one of the spacers includes a plurality of metal plaques, each having a fixing hole obtained in the plaque. The metal plaques are stacked on top of one another so that the respective fixing holes coincide.

The first friction elements are in a higher number than the second friction elements. The assembly can also include a fastening assembly that can include a first bracket that may have a first face configured to contact the wheel web and a second face opposite to the first face. The fastening assembly may also include a fastening device with a sliding pin disposed around a shaft. The first bracket may be disposed around the sliding pin and secured between the wheel web and a first component of the fastening device. The shaft may be disposed through the wheel web and the first bracket. The first component can contact the second face of the first bracket and may compress the first bracket against the wheel web to secure the first segment and the second segment to the wheel.

The at least one airflow restrictor includes at least one gate member configured to move between a closed position and an open position. In the closed position, the at least one gate member at least partially reduces airflow between a circumferential inner edge and a circumferential outer edge of the brake disc. In the open position, the at least one gate member is positioned to permit increased airflow between the circumferential inner edge and the circumferential outer edge of the brake disc, relative to when the at least one gate member is in the closed position. The actuator is coupled to the at least one airflow restrictor and configured to move the restrictor between the open position and the closed position.
