Patent number: 7229233Abstract: A double walled riser sump has an annular space between the two walls. The provision of the annular space provides for monitoring the integrity of the two walls of the sump. The two walls of the sump are preferably separated by a thin film or a distance fabric that allows the passage of fluids, and preferably liquids. The annular space may be in fluid communication with a reservoir holding a monitoring fluid and positioned near the top of the sump to be easily accessible. In some embodiments, a top of the riser sump is also double walled and the top annular space is in fluid communication with the annular space between the vertical walls. If a leak develops in either wall of the sump, a corresponding drop in the fluid level of the reservoir will occur.Type: GrantFiled: March 10, 2004Date of Patent: June 12, 2007Assignee: Xerxes CorporationInventors: John Burwell, Michael G. Zais, Roberto Sanchez

Patent number: 7127455Abstract: A taxonomy is disclosed for describing mobile electronic services (MES) comprising a tree structure for organizing descriptive characteristics of the MES, wherein the tree structure includes: a root level for identifying an environment to which the MES is directed; a service model level for identifying a plurality of service categories; an entity level for identifying a plurality of accessing entity categories; a platform level for identifying a plurality of available component platforms; a class level for identifying a plurality of application characteristics; and an application level for identifying a plurality of specific MES applications; and metadata for identifying additional information relevant to selection of the MES.Type: GrantFiled: November 12, 2002Date of Patent: October 24, 2006Assignee: Hewlett-Packard Development Company, L.P.Inventors: Carollyn Carson, Ian Rhodes, Roberto Sanchez, Gerald Winsor, Christopher Peltz

Publication number: 20050257392Abstract: A lightweight, small size, high sensitivity gauge for indirectly measuring displacement or absolute gap width by measuring axial strain in an orthogonal direction to the displacement/gap width. The gap gauge includes a preferably titanium base having a central tension bar with springs connecting opposite ends of the tension bar to a pair of end connector bars, and an elongated bow spring connected to the end connector bars with a middle section bowed away from the base to define a gap. The bow spring is capable of producing an axial strain in the base proportional to a displacement of the middle section in a direction orthogonal to the base. And a strain sensor, such as a Fabry-Perot interferometer strain sensor, is connected to measure the axial strain in the base, so that the displacement of the middle section may be indirectly determined from the measurement of the axial strain in the base.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 18, 2005Publication date: November 24, 2005Inventors: Billy Wood, Scott Groves, Greg Larsen, Roberto Sanchez

Patent number: 6889865Abstract: A storage tank includes a dome placed over an open end of a riser and secured to the riser by a fiberglass ring formed over a flanged end of the dome and a portion of the riser that is adjacent to the dome such that the interior of the tank may be pressurized to facilitate leak detection. A fillet of putty or other material that will not adhere or only weakly adhere to the riser and dome is placed over a horizontal surface of the flanged end. This arrangement allows the dome to be removed from the riser by simply grinding away a corner portion of the fiberglass ring at the bottom edge of the dome. The dome may then be reused for other tanks. In another embodiment, a domed cover is formed on an interior of the riser. The domed cover preferably includes a flat outside edge which is permanently attached to the inside wall of the riser. After the tank has been installed and tested, the domed portion is cut away, leaving the flat edge attached to the interior wall of the riser.Type: GrantFiled: July 14, 2000Date of Patent: May 10, 2005Assignee: Xerxes CorporationInventors: John Burwell, Don Abel, Chester Batzkiel, Greg Carty, Onesimo Gomez, David Lehman, Roberto Sanchez, Robin L. Berg, Sr.

Patent number: 6852146Abstract: A vane-type mist eliminator is provided with pocket-like channels extending along the lengths fo the vanes. The pockets allow droplets entrained in a gas stream to impinge and cling to the vane, and then drain, without being re-entrained in the gas stream because they are protected from the gas stream by a portion of the pocket which defines the channel. The device does not increase the pressure drop when compared with a similar device lacking the pockets, and allows for a higher throughput before breakthrough occurs.Type: GrantFiled: February 13, 2003Date of Patent: February 8, 2005Assignee: ACS Industries, LPInventors: Timothy L. Holmes, Roberto Sanchez, Kanti Patel, Mark Neuman
