  • Patent number: 8249554
Abstract: A method for wireless communications with mobile stations located within a femtocell is described. The method includes registering a femtocell with an IMS core network to receive IMS services for one or more mobile stations located within the femtocell, and separately registering the mobile station with an application server to provide additional services to the mobile station located within the femtocell. The additional services may be CDMA services. Also, registering the femtocell with the IMS core network may include transmitting femtocell registration information that does not include information regarding the mobile station to the IMS core network to request IMS services for the mobile station.

  • Patent number: 8027681
Abstract: A method for hand-off of a CDMA access mobile from a macrocell to a femtocell is disclosed. The method includes tracking each femtocell which mobile stations have allowed access incorporating a mobile station identification for each of the mobile stations. The method continues with storing the mobile station identification for each femtocell. This may occur in a database or similar structure. The message continues on with requesting a hand-off from the macrocell to the femtocell via PN offset and the method concludes with querying all femtocells that have that PN offset that are within range of the macrocell's neighbor list. If only one femtocell fits that criteria the method is done. If more than one femtocell fits that criteria, a priority list may be set up based at least in part on the number of times and/or frequency that the mobile station has been allowed access on the femtocell.

  • Patent number: 7970398
Abstract: A method for provisioning, registering and authenticating a mobile phone on a basestation is provided. The method includes receiving an addition request for the addition of a mobile station to a basestation authorization record via an interface. The method continues with creating an entry for the mobile station, where the entry includes mobile station information, and receiving a registration request including request information from the mobile station to register to receive basestation based services via the associated internet multimedia subsystem network. The method also includes authorizing registration on the IMS network based at least in part on the request information.

  • Publication number: 20100113016
Abstract: The present invention provides a method for determining the HLR for a user who has been ported in to an IMS network. A call request is received for a mobile unit that has been ported. The communication system determines a Home Location Register (HLR) for the mobile unit. The communication system receives a temporary directory number associated with the mobile unit. The call request is completed to the mobile unit using the temporary directory number.

  • Patent number: 7522921
Abstract: The dual registration system tracks two serving Mobile Switching Centers for each subscriber. The registrations are differentiated as IP Multimedia Subsystem for voice call delivery purposes and CDMA Mobile Switching Center for IP access and other non-voice services. The registration message from the IP Multimedia Subsystem is enhanced via protocol extensions to include an indication that this registration is from the IP Multimedia Subsystem and is to indicate the target Mobile Switching Center for IP Multimedia Subsystem services, such as VoIP. The Home Location Register is enhanced to store two Mobile Switching Centers as the serving Mobile Switching Centers for the dual mode subscriber. The Home Location Register logic is extended to route service to the appropriate Mobile Switching Center depending on service offered, subscriber preferences, and the registration status.

  • Publication number: 20080316976
Abstract: A basestation 3G1x network architecture which is used to convert 3G1x control and signaling to IMS/SIP in basestation is disclosed. The system includes a user agent that bi-directionally translates between SIP messaging and CDMA messaging. The system also includes a 1x basestation emulator which may act as an interface for the 3G1x handset. The basestation emulator is also configured to terminate CDMA mobile protocol and interconnect messages and operations with the user agent. The methods include mapping between the CDMA mobile message and the SIP message through the basestation emulator and the SIP user agent. The method may facilitate basestation origination and termination as well as feature services. These feature services may include three way calling, call waiting and call waiting with caller identification.

  • Publication number: 20080304462
Abstract: A core network architecture for supporting an internet protocol based network is disclosed. The system includes a base station which is configured to convert a signal from a first network to an internet protocol network signal and send the converted signal through the internet protocol base network. The network also includes a gateway which is configured to receive the converted signal and deploy the converted signal through the internet protocol base network. In this sense, the internet protocol base network manages the call mobility and delivery of the signal. The base station in this disclosure may be a femto base station and the first network may be a code division multi-access (CDMA) network.

  • Publication number: 20080304451
Abstract: A method for hand-off of a cell division multi-access mobile from an internet protocol base network to a circuit mobile switching center is disclosed. The system includes determining whether a hand-off is appropriate based at least in part on signal strength of a call for a mobile unit. The method continues with sending a message indicating that the mobile identification of the mobile unit and a target cell locating the circuit identification of a circuit that is available to support a hand-off. The method continues on with allocating the circuit and reconfiguring the mobile unit to a macrocell (CDMA access network) and legacy MSC via the circuit.

  • Publication number: 20080056236
Abstract: The present invention provides a method for signaling between an IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) and a multi-mode terminal using concise primitives to support the use of IMS-based services while the multi-mode terminal is attached to either the packet switched (PS) domain or to the circuit switched (CS) domain, or moves between these domains. The present invention enables the maintenance of services state in only the IMS and in the multi-mode terminal, thus avoiding the creation or transfer of services state information as the multi-mode terminal moves between the PS and CS domains.

  • Patent number: 6975862
Abstract: Apparatus and a method for providing, to a service provider, telemetry access to customer equipment. The telemetry access is provided using wireless access means to avoid having to provide special residential wiring to connect to meters and control devices at customer premises. Each customer device is provided with a cellular station having its own mobile identity, either an international mobile switching identifier (IMSI) or a mobile identity number (MIN). Each IMSI or MIN need not be associated with a different telephone number. For example, a single telephone number can be assigned to a service provider to access all devices telemetered by that service provided. Advantageously, this arrangement provides for an inexpensive method and apparatus for accessing customer devices.

  • Patent number: 6782268
Abstract: This invention provides a method and apparatus for associating call data with particular users instead of line ports. This call data includes the last incoming and outgoing calls associated with a particular number. This allows the services such as automatic callback, automatic recall, and customer originated trace to be implemented with dynamic line assignment allowing users to maintain the same level of subscribed services at different locations. For mobile users, automatic callback, automatic recall, and customer originated trace can be implemented at the home mobile switching center as well as roaming mobile switching centers. If the mobile user is roaming, updating the call history of the mobile station at the new mobile switching center allows the mobile user to experience seamless services across a large territory.

  • Patent number: 6606305
Abstract: An apparatus, method and system are provided for automatic telecommunication conferencing and broadcasting. The system embodiment includes a switch for reception of a first incoming call leg designating a multiple leg service, such as a telecommunication conference, and also designating a subscriber group. Each particular subscriber group is predefined, and consists of a list of directory numbers to be included within the conference or broadcast session. The system embodiment also includes a conference bridge coupled to the switch, in which the conference bridge includes instructions to receive the first incoming call leg routed from the switch, to determine the plurality of directory numbers associated with the subscriber group, and to return to the switch a plurality of intermediate incoming call legs corresponding to the plurality of directory numbers for routing by the switch to form a plurality of outgoing call legs.

  • Patent number: 6529505
Abstract: A system for expanding a parameter encoding field in a new communications protocol that is compatible with an old protocol. An unused command parameter in an old protocol is used to indicate an expanded parameter encoding field in a new protocol. Parameter encodings from the old protocol are unchanged in the new protocol. A system communicating using the old protocol recognizes all parameters from the old protocol and ignores parameters from the new protocol. A system communicating using the new protocol recognizes parameters from both the old and new protocols.
