  • Patent number: 8894408
Abstract: A combustion apparatus includes a fuel supply line for providing an overall fuel supply to the apparatus; a burner including multiple fuel supply lines, the supply of fuel in the fuel supply lines to the burner corresponding to the overall fuel supply in the fuel supply line to the apparatus, and a combustion volume associated with the at least one burner. A temperature sensor measures a temperature of a part of the apparatus to be protected against overheating. A pressure sensor measures pressure within the combustion volume. A control arrangement varies the fuel supplies to the burner based on the measured temperature and pressure and on an information indicative for a progress over time for a signal for a time span. The arrangement maintains the temperature of part to be protected and the pressure variations within the combustion volume below predetermined limits, while maintaining constant fuel supply to the apparatus.

  • Patent number: 8313324
Abstract: A combustion apparatus is provided which includes an incoming fuel supply line that supplies fuel in a plurality of fuel-supply lines to one or more burners, the burners being associated with a combustion volume. A temperature sensor is located in the apparatus so as to yield temperature information relating to a component part of the apparatus, which is to be prevented from overheating The apparatus also includes a control arrangement, which detects the temperature-sensor output and, depending on that output, varies the fuel supplies to one or more of the burners in such a way as to maintain the temperature of the component part below a maximum value, while keeping the fuel in the incoming fuel supply line substantially constant. The control unit preferably also strives to adjust the operating conditions of the apparatus so that pressure oscillations are kept below a maximum value.

  • Patent number: 6270338
Abstract: The object of the invention is to provide a method for operating a premix burner which has improved operational reliability and functioning during certain types of operation. In addition, it is intended to specify a corresponding premix burner for carrying out the method. According to the invention, this is achieved by the fact that at least one liquid fuel (2) is injected into the inner chamber (9) of the premix burner (4) in a plain jet (26, 26′) with an injection angle &agr; of less than 10°. For this purpose, the liquid-fuel nozzle (17) has a simple injection opening (19) with a guide length (1) and with a diameter (d).

  • Patent number: 6132202
Abstract: The object of the invention is to provide a method and a device for operating a premix burner which improve the supply of fuel under certain types of operation.According to the invention, this is achieved by the fact that the liquid fuel (2) and the water (27) are conveyed separately to the liquid-fuel nozzle (17), and only there a liquid-fuel/water mixture (28) is produced, which is then injected into the inner chamber (9) of the premix burner (4) in a plain jet (29) with an injection angle a of less than 10.degree.. To this end and, the liquid-fuel nozzle (17), which opens out centrally into the inner chamber (9), is designed with a simple injection opening (19). A mixing zone (22), into which a liquid-fuel line (20) and a water feed line (21) open out, is arranged upstream of the injection opening (19).

  • Patent number: 6038863
Abstract: The burner arrangement for a gas turbine comprises at least one burner (2), which is arranged in the plenum of the gas turbine and leads with an inner injection space into a combustion chamber and to which compressed air is admitted on the outside from a compressor stage of the gas turbine. Furthermore, a fuel lance (9) for the alternative feeding of liquid and/or gaseous fuels is allocated to the burner (2), which fuel lance (9) has a central liquid-fuel tube (19) and a pilot gas tube (11) concentrically surrounding the liquid-fuel tube (19), the tubes (11, 19) ending in associated outlet openings (22, 23, 23a-c) in a lance head (12) at the tip of the fuel lance (9).

  • Patent number: 5984670
Abstract: A burner for liquid and/or gaseous fuels (A, B, C) for a premixing combustion system in graduated load operation of a combustion chamber includes at least one inner partial body (2) that extends in the flow direction; at least one outer partial body (4) which extends conically opposite to the inner partial body (2); and at least one other surrounding pipe (8). The inner and outer partial bodies form a central flow structure, whereby the two are supplied with the flow in effective connection with each other with combustion air (13, 14, 15). The main part of this combustion air (13) then flows through the two partial bodies through air inlet slits (11, 12) and forms one rotational flow in each of the adjoining flow chamber (5, 7).

  • Patent number: 5895211
Abstract: A gaseous fuel (B) is fed to a a premixing burner which has a main line (10) for the feed of oxygenous gas (G) into at least one mixing zone and/or a combustion zone (VMZ, EMZ, VZ). In the process, at least a first portion of the fuel is fed to the main line (10), in which it is mixed with oxygenous primary gas (PG) inside at least one premixing zone (VMZ) and forms a premixture. The concentration of the fuel in the premixture (VM), under the respective operating conditions of the burner, is selected in such a way that the premixture lies outside the ignition limit. The premixture (VM) is fed to a final mixing zone (EMZ) and is mixed therein with the residual fuel (RB) likewise supplied and/or with oxygenous secondary gas (SG). The resulting final mixture (EM) is fed to a following combustion zone (VZ).

  • Patent number: 5833451
Abstract: A premix burner (1) essentially comprises at least two sectional cone bodies (12, 13) which are nested one inside the other in the direction of flow and the respective cone axes of which are offset relative to a center axis (10). Tangential slots (16) are thereby formed for the combustion air (9). Starting from the tip of the sectional cone bodies (12, 13), a feed lance (1) is arranged which extends downstream into the interior of the premix burner (11) and runs essentially symmetrically to the center axis (10). At least one fuel nozzle (8) is arranged at the downstream end of the feed lance (1).

  • Patent number: 5482457
Abstract: In a gas-operated premixing burner for the combustion chamber of a gas turbine, the fuel injected within a premixing space (21) by means of a plurality of nozzles (17) is intensively mixed with the combustion air prior to ignition. The nozzles are arranged around a burner axis (10). In order to influence the fuel profile at outlet from the burner in a specific manner, the fuel concentration in the region of the burner axis is kept greater than the average fuel concentration at the burner outlet plane (22). For this purpose, additional burner nozzles (23) are provided in the region of the burner axis (10). The additional burner nozzles (23) can be supplied via a separate fuel conduit (24).
