Patent number: 10015447Abstract: Examples disclosed herein provide the ability for remote participants in a collaborative workspace to hear and view specified participants in a conference room. In on example, a computing device may receive streams of content from devices located in a room, and receive requests from users. As an example, each user request is for accessing a subset of the streams of content. For each user request, the computing device may join the requested subset of the streams of content into a single multimedia stream, and transmit each single multimedia stream to respective users.Type: GrantFiled: March 31, 2015Date of Patent: July 3, 2018Assignee: Hewlett-Packard Development Company, L.P.Inventors: James M Mann, Charles J Stancil, Robin T Castell

Publication number: 20020058533Abstract: A modem is incorporated into a laptop computer and directly connected to either a cellular phone, a land line, or both. The modem is provided with two connectors, one for connection with a cellular phone or external DAA, the other for connection to a normal land line via an internal DAA. The modem selectively enables either the connector for the cellular phone or external DAA, or the connector for its internal DAA. The modem defaults to selecting the cellular phone or external DAA if it is connected, and only if they are not connected selects the internal DAA. These defaults can be overridden by user commands. Further, the modem can independently power down a connected internal DAA, external DAA, or cellular phone to conserve power.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 17, 2001Publication date: May 16, 2002Inventors: Paul E. Nagel, Robin T. Castell, Randall L. Jones, Thomas G. Bunch

Patent number: 5964850Abstract: A method and apparatus for increasing system functionality through a predefined interface is disclosed. Signal lines which are not used or which are not used in certain modes are connected to an interconnection device instead of being connected to an interface wherein the output of the interconnection device is connected to the interface where such lines would have been connected. The interconnection device also has a set of inputs for receiving signals from a device providing the desired functionality. A controller chooses between the two sets of inputs to control what signal lines are connected to the predefined interface. Accordingly, during certain modes of operation, the added functionality from a device whose output is being switched into the interface can be supported. In one embodiment, speaker phone capability is provided for even though the predefined PCMCIA interface does not support such capability.Type: GrantFiled: November 10, 1997Date of Patent: October 12, 1999Assignee: Compaq Computer CorporationInventors: Robin T. Castell, G. Edward Newman, Lee W. Atkinson, Kevin W. Eyres, David J. Delisle

Patent number: 5931929Abstract: A laptop computer contains a built-in modem and has a phone jack for connection to a telephone line while the computer is being operated in a stand-alone mode. A docking station into which the laptop computer may be docked allows the combined unit to be operated in a desk-top mode. The docking station may have a full-sized keyboard and display so that the laptop functions as the main computer a user may employ in the office or home. A telephone connection is already in place at the docking station so that the user need not make a phone line connection to invoke the docked mode, but instead merely nests the laptop in the docking station.Type: GrantFiled: December 31, 1996Date of Patent: August 3, 1999Assignee: Compaq Computer CorporationInventors: Huyen B.
