Patent number: 9299355Abstract: The invention relates to an apparatus (1) for improving a stereo audio signal of an FM stereo radio receiver (10). It is suggested to employ components of a standard HE-ACC v2 decoder (40) in such apparatus (1) to efficiently recover the stereo audio signal (L\R?) while also exhibiting good signal quality. To that end, parametric stereo parameters (15) shall be quantized and submitted to such decoder (40) together with a mono-downmix signal (25). The decoder (25) can then easily recover the parametric stereo parameters (15) by de-quantizing them via a simple lookup table, and finally creating the stereo output signal (L?R?) from the de-quantized parametric stereo parameters and the mono-downmix signal (25). The apparatus (1) further includes a parameter estimation stage (5) which may again be embodied on the basis of components of a standard HE-ACC v2 encoder (65).Type: GrantFiled: July 20, 2012Date of Patent: March 29, 2016Assignee: Dolby International ABInventors: Jan Mueller, Robin Thesing, Michael Beer

Publication number: 20160042742Abstract: There is provided methods and apparatuses for decoding and encoding of audio signals. In particular, a method for decoding includes receiving a waveform-coded signal having a spectral content corresponding to a subset of the frequency range above a cross-over frequency. The waveform-coded signal is interleaved with a parametric high frequency reconstruction of the audio signal above the cross-over frequency. In this way an improved reconstruction of the high frequency bands of the audio signal is achieved.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 4, 2014Publication date: February 11, 2016Applicant: DOLBY INTERNATIONAL ABInventors: Kristofer KJOERLING, Robin THESING, Harald MUNDT, Heiko PURNHAGEN, Karl Jonas ROEDEN

Publication number: 20150003632Abstract: The present document relates to the technical field of audio coding, decoding and processing. It specifically relates to methods of recovering high frequency content of an audio signal from low frequency content of the same audio signal in an efficient manner. A method for determining a first banded tonality value (311, 312) for a first frequency subband (205) of an audio signal is described. The first banded tonality value (311, 312) is used for approximating a high frequency component of the audio signal based on a low frequency component of the audio signal.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 22, 2013Publication date: January 1, 2015Applicant: DOLBY INTERNATIONAL ABInventors: Robin Thesing, Michael Schug

Patent number: 8804971Abstract: A method for encoding a multichannel audio input signal, including steps of generating a downmix of low frequency components of a subset of channels of the input signal, waveform coding each channel of the downmix, thereby generating waveform coded, downmixed data, performing parametric encoding on at least some higher frequency components of each channel of the input signal, thereby generating parametrically coded data, and generating an encoded audio signal (e.g., an E-AC-3 encoded signal) indicative of the waveform coded, downmixed data and the parametrically coded data. Other aspects are methods for decoding such an encoded signal, and systems configured to perform any embodiment of the inventive method.Type: GrantFiled: August 27, 2013Date of Patent: August 12, 2014Assignees: Dolby International AB, Dolby Laboratories Licensing CorporationInventors: Phillip A. Patent number: 8738386Abstract: An input signal conveying encoded information representing one or more audio channels is decoded by determining the configuration of channels represented by the encoded information, obtaining from the channel configuration a channel selection mask that specifies which of the one or more audio channels are to be decoded, extracting encoded information from the input signal, and decoding the extracted encoded information for those audio channels specified in the channel selection mask.Type: GrantFiled: October 5, 2010Date of Patent: May 27, 2014Assignee: Dolby International ABInventor: Robin Thesing

Publication number: 20120275607Abstract: The present document relates to audio decoding and/or audio transcoding. In particular, the present document relates to a scheme for efficiently decoding a number M of audio channels from a bitstream comprising a higher number N of audio channels. In this context a method and system for merging a first and a second source set of spectral band replication (SBR) parameters to a target set of SBR parameters is described. The first and second source set comprise a first and second frequency band partitioning, respectively, which are different from one another. The first source set comprises a first set of energy related values associated with frequency bands of the first frequency band partitioning. The second source set comprises a second set of energy related values associated with frequency bands of the second frequency band partitioning. The target set comprises a target energy related value associated with an elementary frequency band.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 14, 2010Publication date: November 1, 2012Applicant: DOLBY INTERNATIONAL ABInventors: Kristofer Kjoerling, Robin Thesing
