  • Patent number: 4651669
Abstract: A mooring anchor including a pair of spaced part flukes, an integrally cast tripping palm structure integral with said flukes at the rearward end thereof and including a pair of planar, sloping walls diverting rearwardly from the flukes and first and second pairs of transverse reinforcing walls extending transversely between the sloping walls, an elongated solid stock rotatably received through aligned openings in the reinforcing walls and through the rearward end of a rigid elongated shank having a clevis receiving apertured lug portion at its forward end. The sloping walls of the tripping palm have apertures extending therethrough at positions rearwardly of each surface of each fluke and between the adjacent associated reinforcing walls.

  • Patent number: 4630522
Abstract: An accoustically detonated explosively separable link comprising a pair of bolt assemblies mounted in spaced operative relation within the separable link parts, each of which includes a bolt having a cavity therein. An explosive is provided in each cavity and an electrically actuated exploding bridge wire is connected with each explosive for detonating the same. A miniaturized acoustical receiver assembly is mounted within the link parts and includes a hydrophone for receiving a transmitted acoustical detonation signal, batteries and circuitry operatively connected with the hydrophone, the batteries and exploding bridge wires for conducting an electrical current from the batteries to the exploding bridge wires in response to the hydrophone receiving a transmitted acoustical detonation signal.

  • Patent number: 4616590
Abstract: A semi-submersible drilling rig or the like having a plurality of chain lockers, a plurality of anchor windlass assemblies and a plurality of fairlead assemblies, a plurality of lengths of chain each having a multiplicity of interconnected links configured to move from a chain locker in cooperative relation through an associated anchor windlass assembly and an associated fairlead assembly, an anchor for each length of chain, and a connector connecting each anchor to the end of the associated length of chain outboard of the associated fairlead assembly so as to engage with the water bottom. The invention further comprises providing in each length of chain at least one link normally disposed within the chain locker inboard of the associated anchor windlass and fairlead assemblies, each of which includes a plurality of removably interconnected parts operable when interconnected to interengage with the adjacent links of the associated length of chain.

  • Patent number: 4517913
Abstract: A semi-submersible drilling rig having a plurality of chain lockers, a plurality of anchor windlass assemblies and a plurality of fairlead assemblies, a plurality of lengths of chain each having a multiplicity of interconnected links configured to move from a chain locker in cooperative relation through an associated anchor windless assembly and an associated fairlead assembly and an anchor for each length of chain connected to the end of the associated length of chain outboard of the associated fairlead assembly so as to engage with the water bottom. Each length of chain has at least one frangible link normally disposed within the associated chain locker inboard of the associated anchor windlass and fairlead assemblies of a different construction with respect to the remaining links of the associated length of chain.

  • Patent number: 4179878
Abstract: The disclosure embraces a mooring system of the type used to anchor floating bodies with a vessel having a plurality of rollers for taking up and laying sections of cable which are joined together by an improved hinge link; at one end, the cable is secured to a floating body, at an intermediate portion to an anchor and, at its other end, when the system is installed, to the body that is to be moored; the sections of mooring cable are joined together by a hinge link having two U-shaped half-links where the free ends of the U-shaped half-links are formed with fingers having through bores which interfit with the fingers on the other half-link; a retaining pin is provided with a head and shank portion which fits through the bores of the fingers; the head of the pin has a flat side to prevent the pin from rolling when placed on a surface; the shank of the pin is provided with a bore intermediate its ends for receiving a cotter pin and the midpoint of the shank of the pin is provided with flat sections to permit gr
