    Abstract: A vent cover for covering an opening in a building structure to vent its interior is provided. The vent cover includes a hollow cover member with an open bottom for positioning over and covering the opening in the building and a front end with an opening. A grill is removably secured in the opening in the front end of the cover member. The grill has a plurality of partitions. Each of the partitions is defined by intersecting members, which have a tapered cross section for accelerating the flow of air through the grill. The grill also has a splash guard and an overhang structure optimal for preventing rain, snow and water from entering the grill and the opening in the building structure. The cover member may be aerodynamically shaped for use atop vehicles such as trailers and RVs.

    Abstract: A sunroof assembly is provided for securing to an exterior surface of a vehicle roof. The vehicle roof has exterior and interior surfaces. Opposing rails are secured to opposing sides of the exterior surface of the vehicle roof. A sunroof is supported between the rails and is movable between closed and opened positions with the sunroof disposed in a sunroof opening in the closed position. A housing, which is preferably a portion of a deflector, is secured to the exterior of the vehicle roof. In the preferred embodiment which incorporates a deflector, the deflector is secured between the opposing rails. A drive motor is disposed in the housing for moving the sunroof between the closed and opened positions. At least one drive element interconnects the drive motor and the sunroof. Since the drive motor and housing are located exteriorly on the vehicle roof, the sunroof assembly may be installed as a single unit and multi-piece drive elements are unnecessary.

    Abstract: A one-piece sunshade assembly for covering a vehicle sunroof includes guide flanges and a handle integrated into a sunshade panel that covers the sunroof. The guide flanges, handle, and sunshade panel are all formed from the same molding process to form the one-piece sunshade assembly from a plastic material such as polypropylene. An occupant of the vehicle grasps the handle that is molded to be recessed in the sunshade panel to slide the panel and cover and uncover the sunroof. The guide flanges extend from the sunshade panel to slidably engage guide rails and guide the panel as it is slid.

    Abstract: A vehicle is provided that includes a roof with a roof opening and a rear body portion with a rear opening. Spaced apart guide rails are supported on an exterior surface of the roof. A retractable roof panel is supported on the guide rails by guide members that move along the guide rails along a path. The roof opening and the roof panel extend to the rearward end where the roof panel defines a rear header. The retractable roof panel may be driven from a closed positioned forward to an open position where the roof panel is adjacent to the exterior surface of the roof. The rear gate assembly, which is arranged in the rear opening, may be opened to provide access to the rear cargo area of the vehicle. With the rear gate assembly and retractable roof panel open, large items may be slid into the cargo area and may extend above the plane of the roof.

    Abstract: A lift gate assembly for a vehicle includes a windowpane slidable between an open and a closed position within the lift gate along guide channels. A motor and drive cable move the windowpane between open and closed positions. Another embodiment the lift gate includes upper and lower sections pivotally connected to each other. The lift gate opens by folding the lower section upward relative to the upper section. Guide pins engage a guide track to hold the lift gate in intermediate open positions and also move completely free from the guide track to fully open the lift gate. In another embodiment the upper and lower sections of the lift gate are pivotally attached to the vehicle such that the upper lift gate opens upward, and the lower section opens downward. The windowpane slides open into the lower section along guide channels disposed within both sections of the lift gate.

    Abstract: A self-powered sunroof assembly can be mounted in the roof of a vehicle and includes a movable panel, preferably a window, a motor for controlling movement of the movable panel, and a self-contained power supply unit that supplies power to the motor. The self-contained power supply unit contains a battery and at least one solar cell array that charges the battery. The solar cell array is preferably attached to the movable panel but may be located anywhere on the sunroof assembly that may be directly or indirectly exposed to sunlight. Additionally, placement of the solar cell array on the movable window does not decrease visibility through the window.

    Abstract: A sunroof apparatus has a window, a sunscreen, and a sunshade. The sunshade is opaque and blocks all light from entering. The sunscreen has a plurality of openings for allowing a filtered transmission of light via the sunroof. The sunshade and sunscreen are able to be moved independent of each other to provide a driver a greater number of lighting options. The sunscreen also provides an air dampening effect when it is closed and when the window is open, thereby lessening the turbulence of the air as well as the wind noise.
