  • Publication number: 20210004526
Abstract: Some processes can benefit from restructuring or editing submitted documents. For example, patent examiners could benefit from viewing claims in a collapsible hierarchy, reflowing content tablet displays, or editing ex officio corrections. Accordingly, it can be beneficial to interact with the document in a Markup Language format such as XML which facilitates restructuring and editing. However, applicants largely refuse to adopt XML filing solutions proposed by the USPTO and the EPO. The present invention allows applicants to continue filing PDF for initial and subsequent submissions while facilitating a transition to a XML working process. After automatically capturing content, it provides an ergonomic interface, allowing users throughout the process to manually touch-up OCR artifacts, mathematical equations, and chemical structures.

  • Patent number: 9411788
Abstract: Methods and apparatus are provided for improved navigation among controlled terms in one or more user documents. A user can navigate among a plurality of occurrences of a controlled term in one or more documents. A disclosed navigation and editing tool provides a link for each of the occurrences of the controlled term, wherein each of the links include a plurality of destination links, wherein each of the destination links allow a user to navigate to a corresponding one of the other of the plurality of occurrences in the one or more documents; receives a user selection of at least one of the destination links; and jumps, in response to the user selection, to a destination in the one or more documents associated with the selected destination link.

  • Publication number: 20110258538
Abstract: A DOM-based document editing system is disclosed that maintains an editor DOM that can be modified by a user and includes an edit capture extension. The edit capture extension encodes a change to the editor DOM in a hierarchical coordinate format to identify a location of the change. Encoded changes can then be transferred to a collaborator and/or a persistence engine. The DOM-based document editing system optionally maintains a store DOM in addition to the editor DOM. The edit capture extension identifies changes in the editor DOM by comparing differences between the editor DOM and the store DOM. Identified changes are reflected in the store DOM to ensure that the two DOMs are substantially synchronized. Related changes can be grouped in a group step. The related changes are from either non-contiguous regions of the document or a plurality of editor DOMs. Related changes can be undone and/or redone as a group.

  • Patent number: 7983961
Abstract: Techniques are described for collecting user descriptive data as a user employs a client device, such as a personal computer, laptop, PDA, or the like. The data is evaluated and a profile code is assigned based upon the evaluation. This profile code is selected from a domain of profile codes established so that useful markets for targeted advertising are identified by the profile codes, but the profile codes are not so specific that the user's privacy is unduly threatened.

  • Publication number: 20110167381
Abstract: Techniques are described for providing a document map of structure elements (e.g. headings) when a user interacts with a scroll control in a document window. Embodiments provide means of selective pruning (with optional folding/unfolding), differential emphasis, varying line spacing, and/or zooming of structure elements such as when there is insufficient space to display them all. Embodiments provide that document map may be updated dynamically or at conclusion of scroll event.

  • Patent number: 7303534
Abstract: A firmness tester is disclosed which conducts its test through one or more rolling indenters impinging upon the surface of a subject. Most firmness sensors require the sample to be held stationary relative to the tester's reference plane. This invention allows the tester to differentiate between the firmness of the sample and movement of the sample relative to the sensing device. This is desirable in the application of an automatic massage chair where the roller/sensor presses upon the user's back and may cause the point of contact on the user's body to move away by means of the user flexing at the hips or arching through the back. The rolling feature is desirable in the field of automated chair massage where the massage indenters slide across the user's back with significant pressure through a membrane. This membrane would wear quickly if the indenters were not equipped with such a rolling mechanism.

  • Patent number: 6911012
Abstract: A massage device for manipulating a user includes a support member and a manipulator carried by the support member. The manipulator is adapted to engage and apply a shear force to the user. The manipulator is rotatable about at least one axis relative to the support member and a brake operably connected to the manipulator selectively adjusts rotation of the manipulator about the at least one axis so that the shear force applied to the user by the manipulator is adjusted. In automatically controlled embodiments, a controller adjusts the braking force according to signals received from a detector to prevent or reduce slippage of the roller and to dynamically control the magnitude of the shear force applied to the user. In manually embodiments, an operator adjusts the braking force to a fixed magnitude or dynamically adjusts the braking force to control the shear force applied to the user.

  • Patent number: 6770043
Abstract: An improved therapeutic spa, hot tub, or hydrotherapy system includes one or more jet assemblies to form streams of water which translate in at least two degrees of freedom over a substantial portion of the user's body. The jet assemblies preferably move in patterns under automatic computer control as well as manual feedback by the user. The system preferably includes a body support, such as in the form of a chair. The support is at least partially water permeable so that the streams of water impinge the user through the body support. The jet assemblies preferably include unitary nozzles, pumps, and motors.

  • Patent number: 6752772
Abstract: A device includes at least one manipulator located below the user to manipulate the user, a translator which moves the manipulator along the user, and a mechanism to change a pressure intensity of the manipulator while providing spatially uniform support to the user outside a contact patch of the manipulator. Various embodiments include adjusting tension of a membrane supporting the user above the manipulator, adjusting the vertical position of a membrane supporting the user above the manipulator, adjusting fluid pressure in a bladder located between the user and the manipulator, adjusting fluid pressure in a bladder containing the manipulator; adjusting emergence of the user in a liquid supporting the user, changing the level of liquid supporting the user relative by pumping the liquid or actuating valves which allow the liquid to flow, and injecting gas into liquid supporting the user to modifying its density.

  • Patent number: 6669649
Abstract: A device for monitoring the breath of a user includes a tub containing a liquid for at least partially immersing the user in the liquid and a weight sensor positioned to sense weight information of the user while the user is at least partially immersed in the liquid. A controller is operably connected to the weight sensor to receive the weight information and is adapted to dynamically determine at least one of a respiratory phase of the user and a respiratory amplitude of the user using changes in the weight information over a period of time resulting from buoyancy changes of the user. The respiratory phase and/or the respiratory amplitude can be utilized to detect volitional breath commands, to detect pain thresholds of the user, to provide breath synchronized manipulations to the user, and to provide breath synchronized coaching signals to the user.
