    Abstract: Polyalkenylaromatic-polyethylene copolymers are prepared using protected functional organolithium initiators. Polymerization of an alkenylsubstituted aromatic monomer followed by ethylene, results in a protected functional block polystyrene-co-polyethylenyllithium. Termination with a functionalizing agent followed by deprotection produces polymeric products with high functionalization at the initiating chain-end and at least partial functionalization at the terminal chain-end.

    Abstract: The present invention provides novel, multi-arm or star-shaped polymers having mixed protected functional and non-functional ends, their optionally hydrogenated analogues, and the polymers produced by removal of the protecting groups. The invention also provides a process for the preparation of novel multi-arm or star-shaped polymers having branched-end functionality on some, but not all, of the branches. The multi-arm or star polymers of this invention are produced from more than one type of initiator, i.e., from both functional and non-functional initiators which, by design, incorporates both desired physical properties associated with multi-arm or star polymers with non-functional branch-ends and the versatility of functional branch end multi-arm or star polymers.

    Abstract: Compatibilizing agents suitable for blending otherwise immiscible polymers comprise a block or graft copolymer in which at least one of the block segments is formed by a living anionic polymerization and thereafter chemically converted to provide a polymer having at least one functional end group. The functional groups of the polymer blocks thus formed are reacted with a functionalized monomer, or an oligomer to provide a second block polymer segment. Compatibilizing agents containing more than two blocks may be formed in similar fashion. The compatibilizing agents are used to provide uniform blends of polar and non-polar polymers having superior uniformity and other physical properties.

    Abstract: A tacky thermoplastic elastomeric linear triblock polymer corresponding to the formula A-B-A is made from a monovinyl aromatic hydrocarbon and myrcene. A is a polymer block of a monovinyl aromatic hydrocarbon, e.g. styrene, having an average molecular weight between 2,000 and 100,000 and a glass transition temperature above 25.degree. C. B is a polymeric block of myrcene (7-methyl-3-methylene-1,6-octadiene, C.sub.10 H.sub.16) having an average molecular weight between 10,000 and 1,000,000 and a glass transition temperature below -40.degree. C. B constitutes from 40 to 80 percent of the total. The products are made by sequential polymerization with an organolithium initiator.
