  • Patent number: 11644384
Abstract: A method of determining a condition of a component (e.g., valves) of an engine having a manifold air pressure sensor during a cold test includes providing pressurized air to an intake of the engine. The method includes rotating a crankshaft of the engine. The method includes measuring pressures with the manifold air pressure sensor as a function of crankshaft rotational position. The method includes comparing the pressures with a predetermined baseline. The method includes indicating a condition of the component based on the comparison of the pressures with the baseline.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: May 21, 2018
Date of Patent: May 9, 2023
    Assignee: Ford Motor Company
Inventors: David J. Chesney, Roderick Alexander Simpson
  • Patent number: 11053908
Abstract: A method of verifying a cylinder deactivation mode on an engine is provided. The method can include activating an ignition device in a deactivated cylinder during an exhaust stroke of the deactivated cylinder. The method can include measuring a voltage of the ignition device. The method can include comparing at least one of an amplitude and a timing of a measured spike of the voltage against a baseline voltage spike. The method can include indicating a status of the deactivation mode based on the comparison against the baseline voltage spike.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: May 21, 2018
Date of Patent: July 6, 2021
    Assignee: Ford Motor Company

  • Patent number: 6845340
Abstract: A system and method for machining data management is provided. Vibration and operation data are gathered from a machine tool and sent to a processing unit. The processing unit defines operation-specific vibration profiles, and generates an operation-specific data line for each profile. The data lines are stored in a memory for later retrieval. An output device is used to retrieve the data lines and plot them over a time domain to create an operation-specific data matrix useful in manufacturing operations analysis.

Date of Patent: January 18, 2005
    Assignee: Ford Motor Company
