Abstract: Electromotive tops entertain the user while teaching principles of physics. Two embodiments are disclosed. The first embodiment has a motor and a motor shaft that are inserted into a top body with a flywheel attached to its top. A retainer connects the motor shaft to the top body. Motor terminals protrude from the motor. The second embodiment has a motor with a motor shaft that is connected to a spindle sleeve. A spacer, spindle nut, and spindle secure one or more standard compact discs to the spindle sleeve. A housing and facing enclose the motor and a plurality of capacitors. The capacitors power LEDs attached to the facing. Motor terminals protrude from the motor through the housing. The spindle can be unscrewed using a thumbscrew to allow the user to add and/or remove one or more compact discs from the spindle sleeve as desired.
