  • Publication number: 20020021269
Abstract: A system and/or method for controlling a display array without the use of row and column drivers. The display elements within the system are configured to maintain an active address signal in response to a received signal containing serially encoded display settings. Each display element is loaded with an address of where it is located within the array. The display elements then extract the display information from the signal upon matching the address, wherein they output the correct display setting for their position within the array. An optical programming method is described for setting the address of the display elements in-situ.

  • Publication number: 20020018009
Abstract: An apparatus and method for tracking aircraft wingtip position during taxi operations to prevent collisions with nearby obstructions. A patterned illumination source is attached proximal the wingtips to project a readily discernable target pattern in the direction of taxi travel. At least a portion of the target pattern is reflected off of any obstructions that lie in the straight-line direction of travel, such that the pilot can maneuver to avoid striking the obstruction. By way of example, the patterned illumination source comprises a laser module positioned with the navigation and/or strobe light of the aircraft that is configured to project a circular pattern in front of the wingtip. The device may be retrofitted to existing aircraft without additional wiring with the control of activation being selectable via power cycling of existing aircraft lighting controls.

  • Publication number: 20010046304
Abstract: An apparatus and method for providing controlled acoustic isolation within various forms of headsets. The invention provides manual and automatic mechanisms for changing the amount of acoustic isolation provided by the headsets. Sounds in the environment that the user wishes to be made aware of can be programmed into a set of stored sound selection characteristics. In response to correlation of the stored sound characteristics with sounds in the external environment the headset decreases acoustic isolation by coupling signals from one or more external microphones to the audio conversion elements within the earpieces. Alternatively, the apparatus can respond to sounds to be blocked by increasing acoustic isolation. A manual control may be activated by the user to decrease acoustic isolation at their discretion.

  • Publication number: 20010034769
Abstract: A system and method for sending temporally displaced electronic messages over a network from a sender to a recipient. The sending system is configured to allow the user to encode a temporal specifier into an electronic message to be sent over the network to a recipient at a destination address on the network. The electronic message is received over the network by a retention system which decodes the temporal specifier and stores the electronic message, sending to the destination in accord with the temporal specifier. In addition, the inventive teachings provide for the integration of additional content with the electronic messages and the use of cross-media communication of messages exemplified for escalating message priority.
