  • Patent number: 7942118
Abstract: An oil system for selectively deactivating valves for specified cylinders of an internal combustion engine includes a cylinder head having a lash adjuster oil passage and a cylinder deactivation oil passage. Plugs are coupled to the cylinder head separating the cylinder deactivation oil passage into separate portions. A clearance between a portion of each plug and the head allows a controlled flow of oil to pass from the lash adjuster oil passage to the cylinder deactivation oil passage to purge air from the cylinder deactivation oil passage. A valve is operable to selectively supply pressurized oil to the cylinder deactivation oil passage to deactivate the specified cylinders.

  • Publication number: 20110073074
Abstract: An engine assembly may include a cylinder head, a cam cover and a fuel rail assembly. The cylinder head may define intake and exhaust ports and the cam cover may be fixed to the cylinder head. The fuel rail assembly may include a fuel rail, a bracket assembly and a fuel injector. The bracket assembly may be fixed to the fuel rail and may include a fastener and an isolation member. The fastener may be engaged with the cam cover and may secure the fuel rail thereto. The isolation member may be located between the fuel rail and the cam cover to isolate vibration therebetween. The fuel injector may be in communication with the fuel rail and may extend into a combustion chamber defined by the cylinder head at a location between the intake and exhaust ports.

  • Publication number: 20110067654
Abstract: A camshaft assembly may include a monolithic camshaft body, a journal member and a thrust ring. The monolithic camshaft body may define lobes and journal regions along an axial extent thereof. The journal member may be separate from and fixed to an axial end of the camshaft body adjacent an end lobe of the camshaft body. The thrust ring may be axially secured to the camshaft assembly at the axial end of the camshaft body.

  • Publication number: 20100224155
Abstract: A camshaft damping mechanism may include first and second housing members and a biasing member. The first housing member may be engaged with a camshaft. The second housing member may be slidably coupled to the first housing member and may abut an engine structure. The biasing member may be retained axially between the first and second housing members and may force the first housing member in an outward axial direction from the second housing member.

  • Patent number: 7523729
Abstract: A rocker assembly for a valve train having a first valve, a second valve, and a pushrod is provided. The rocker assembly includes a rocker having a first arm in contact with the first valve, a second arm in contact with the second valve, and a third arm in contact with the pushrod, the first arm having a bore formed therethrough. An adjustable swivel foot includes a first portion having threads and a second portion, the adjustable swivel foot coupled to the first arm such that the first portion extends through the bore of the first arm and the second portion is engageable with the first valve, and a threaded member is included that is engaged with the threads of the first portion of the adjustable swivel foot, the threaded member operable to position the second portion relative to the rocker.

  • Patent number: 7051685
Abstract: A cylinder head for an internal combustion engine (ICE) includes a lower cooling jacket, an upper cooling jacket and an exhaust manifold disposed therebetween. The exhaust manifold enables exhaust of combustion gas from cylinders of the ICE. The lower cooling jacket has coolant flow paths in fluid communication with coolant flow paths of a cylinder block of the ICE. Coolant flow paths of the upper cooling jacket are in fluid communication with those of the lower cooling jacket through one of a plurality of passages. The passages can be selectively plugged to define coolant flow direction through the cylinder head. The upper and lower cooling jackets are in heat exchange relationship with surfaces of the exhaust manifold to cool exhaust gas flowing therethrough.

  • Patent number: 6513480
Abstract: An engine assembly includes an engine block with a laterally extending oil supply gallery formed therethrough. The engine block includes an aperture formed in fluid communication with the oil supply gallery. The hydraulically-actuated valve deactivation system is positioned in fluid communication with the aperture for receiving pressurized oil from the oil supply gallery. A pick-up tube is positioned within the aperture and has a distal end protruding vertically downward into the oil supply gallery to minimize the amount of air in the oil which is communicated to the hydraulically-actuated valve deactivation system. This prevents delay of valve deactivation after engine start-up as oil fills the oil supply gallery and displaces air from the oil supply gallery.
