  • Patent number: 6332984
Abstract: An integrated system for diverting and reducing the size of waste materials in an effluent stream comprising a frame having a bottom housing and a top housing and mountable in the stream. A grinder unit is mounted to the frame bottom housing and comprises a cutter assembly positioned in the stream and a drive mechanism coupled to the cutter assembly to rotate the cutter assembly. The drive mechanism may be electric or hydraulic. A diverter unit is mounted to the frame. It may be a single diverter or dual diverters. The diverter unit comprises a cylindrical drum rotating on a stub shaft. It may also be a helical coil. A drive assembly operably couples the drive mechanism to the drum shaft to rotate the cylindrical drum as the cutter assembly rotates. In operation the diverter unit is positioned side by side to the grinder unit to diverts solids in the effluent stream toward the grinder unit for size reduction. Side rails are employed for flow control around both the diverter unit and the grinder unit.

  • Patent number: 5593100
Abstract: A solid waste material comminuting system having a electric motor for providing rotary motion, a pair of cutter stacks with cutter elements of one stack interleaved with cutter elements of the other, and gear means to transmit the rotary motion of the electric motor to counter-rotate cutter elements of one stack with cutter elements of the other. Each of the cutter stacks comprise a central shaft journaled for rotation and a bearing module at each end of the central shafts. Each bearing module comprises an end housing, and a pair of insertable preassembled bearing assemblies mountable in each of said end housings. One bearing assembly has a thru-hole for journaling a first shaft for rotation and a second bearing assembly has a thru-hole for journaling a second shaft for rotation. The housing has an inspection port at the top to allow for tightening of the cutter stack.

  • Patent number: 4707150
Abstract: An annular elastomeric seal wedge of diamond shaped radial cross section under axial compression has opposite axial ends fitted within V-shaped cross section annular grooves within a radially projected shoulder of a bushing of a fluid pressure assisted rotary shaft seal and a similar V-shaped annular groove within the axial end face of the rotating seal race. A radial groove is formed within the side of the annular elastomeric seal wedge remote from the outside of the rotary shaft seal which receives an annular metal wave spring having axial undulations for axially biasing the rotating seal race in contact with the end face of a static seal race to form the dynamic shaft seal and for maintaining the positive pressure seal between the ends of the axial ends of the diamond shaped annular elastomeric seal wedge across the gap between the bushing radially projecting shoulder and the facing end of the rotating seal race.
