Abstract: A hood (10) is arranged for partially enclosing a terminal plug (14) onto which a plurality of electrical conductors have been terminated, which hood can be assembled onto the plug without the use of screws or other mounting apparatus even after the electrical conductors have been terminated. The hood comprises two half-shells (11-12) which are arranged to securely mount the plug-in channels (25, 45) located on the inside surfaces of walls of the half-shells. As the two half-shells are mounted on the plug, fastening means (51, 61, 81, 82) located on each of the half-shells mate with each other to securely lock the half-shells together to form hood 10 with terminal plug (14) seated within the assembled hood. Cable tie means (90, 92) are also disclosed for tieing the plurality of conductors (15) to one of the half-shells.

Abstract: Two protective molded plastic hood embodiments are disclosed that are particularly adapted for use in securing multi-conductor cables to connector plugs of the type typically having one or more arrays of terminals of either the soldered or solderless type associated therewith. Each plastic hood, by having a pressure pad integrally connected to a pressure pad-receiving hood extension formed as an integral rearward portion of the main body of the hood, advantageously allows the composite hood not only to be of one-piece construction, but allows the pressure pad to be key-way guided in a telescopic manner into the hood extension. This insures that reliable, diametrically opposed clamping forces, provided by a cable tie, will always be imparted against a section of cable when positioned between the pad and hood extension, regardless of the diameter of the cable (or cables).

Abstract: A protective hood for a cable connector plug is made of a one-piece molded plastic construction. At its forward end the hood includes a resilient tab which snaps into locked relationship with the plug as the hood is slidably assembled to the plug, and at its opposite end the hood can be securely connected to the cable, regardless of the cable diameter, by a self-locking cable tie. The cable is secured to the hood by flexing a pair of integral spaced guide elements projecting laterally from an upper rearward extension of the hood, to position an integral pressure pad beneath the cable jacket, whereafter the cable tie is inserted through an eyelet molded in a top portion of the hood extension. Utilizing the hood portion defining the eyelet as a stop for a head of the cable tie, the tie then is tightened between the guide elements to cause the pressure pad to grip the cable jacket against the upper rearward extension of the hood.
