  • Patent number: 5219121
Abstract: A device for dispensing any one of a wide range of volatile liquids as vapours, comprises a reservoir with an open end closed by a vapor-permeable, liquid-impermeable element. A flange surrounds the opening to the reservoir and the element is bondable to the flange in a multiplicity of different locations, each of which defines a respective area of the element bounded by the bond and wettable by the volatile liquid. Thus, a single device can be used to dispense any one of a wide range of volatile materials simply by determining the surface area within the bond to be wetted by the volatile liquid to give the desired rate of vapor release for the selected volatile material and bonding the element to the flange in a location to define the determined wettable area of the element.

  • Patent number: 4898328
Abstract: A device for dispensing a volatile liquid as a vapor includes a porous support of natural or synthetic woven or non-woven fibre, porous glasses, porous plastics (optionally in film form), parchment, leather or rubber provided with an organopolysiloxane material which serves to close the pores of the support to the passage of liquid but permits the passage of vapour from the liquid. The volatile liquid is a perfume, insecticide, insect repellant, insect attractant, higher animal repellant, corrosion inhibitor, a germicidal agent or a medicament. A space treatment vapor emanating device is thus provided the external surface of which device is dry to the touch.

  • Patent number: 4802997
Abstract: A method for the treatment of textiles surfaces has the steps:(i) a solids treatment material including a swollen hydrogel containing aqueous treatment fluid is applied to a surface,(ii) force is then applied to release the treatment fluids from the hydrogel,(iii) the textile is allowed to dry and(iv) visible residues are removed from the surface. The hydrogel is a hydrophilic homopolymer or copolymer of acrylic or methacrylic acid or salt/ester thereof; a homopolymer or copolymer of acrylonitrile; a cellulose ether, carboxylated cellulose derivative polyalkylene oxide or polyurethane optionally cross-linked with polysaccharide. The treatment fluid is for cleansing, insect-proofing, fragrancing or antibacterial/antifungal purposes.

  • Patent number: 4293312
Abstract: An ignitable combustible composition comprising a matrix of solid resin having distributed therethrough combustible liquid, e.g. kerosene, water and contains also up to 25% by weight of a particulate non-combustible solid having a specific surface area of not greater than 8 m.sup.2 /g e.g. sand, glass microspheres, or kieselguhr, to lengthen the burning time of a unit volume of the composition.
