Patent number: 9955797Abstract: A child carrier having a waist belt, an upper torso support, a hammock coupled to the waist belt and to the upper torso support, and a thigh support strap extending to each side of the hammock. Each thigh support strap has an inward end portion proximate to the hammock and an outward end portion configured for selective coupling to the upper torso support in multiple positions. When the thigh support straps are coupled to the upper torso support, the hammock and the thigh support straps form a seat to support a child in an ergonomic spread-squat position in inward and outward facing orientations. The shape of the seat adjusts depending on the positions in which the outward end portions of the thigh support straps are coupled to the upper torso support.Type: GrantFiled: May 23, 2017Date of Patent: May 1, 2018Assignee: The Ergo Baby Carrier, Inc.Inventors: Rodney V. Telford, Daruni M. Gotel, Carol J. Lubick

Patent number: 9700152Abstract: Embodiments disclosed herein provide hip seat devices and systems for carrying a child in a position that is ergonomically beneficial for the child and comfortable for the wearer. A hip seat device may comprise a seating platform attached to a wearer engagement surface. The wearer engagement surface is held against the body of a wearer, such as by a waist belt encircling the wearer. The seating platform has a bucket shape for promoting a child seated thereon to assume an ergonomic spread-squat position (“M” position). The bucket shape may have the additional benefit of bringing the child closer to the wearer, reducing the moment on the carrier and thus the resulting force on the wearer.Type: GrantFiled: March 31, 2016Date of Patent: July 11, 2017Assignee: The ERGO Baby Carrier, Inc.Inventors: Rodney V. Telford, Joseph Hei

Publication number: 20170119173Abstract: An adjustable child carrier includes an adjustable bucket seat that can be adjusted to accommodate children of a wide range of sizes. The child carrier includes one or more adjustments that work alone or in cooperation to adjust the depth and width of the bucket seat area provided by the child carrier. The carrier is capable of supporting children of various sizes in an ergonomic position appropriate for the child's size.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 28, 2016Publication date: May 4, 2017Inventor: Rodney V. Publication number: 20160296034Abstract: A child carrier harness that is adjustable to fit a wide range of child sizes yet is easy to use and comfortable for both the child and the wearer. The harness includes a running line for encircling a child's torso. A loop is disposed at one end of the running line. The opposite end of the running line may be fed through this loop to create a child tethering area for encircling a child's torso. The end of the running line opposite the loop is joined to the child carrier. The child tethering area can therefore tether the child (e.g., to the child carrier and thus the wearer) without encumbering the child's shoulders, arms, or legs or affecting the child's position within the child carrier. Additionally, adjustment of the running line allows the harness to fit a wide range of child sizes. A waist belt anchor portion may be used to provide the corresponding attachment point on carriers not provided with one.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 8, 2016Publication date: October 13, 2016Inventor: Rodney V. Telford

Publication number: 20160066707Abstract: Embodiments disclosed herein are directed to a nursing pillow that positions the baby in an ergonomically beneficial position. Embodiments of such a nursing pillow may have a pillow body with a medial region and two arms. Medial region and arms may partially surround and define a central opening open between the arms so that the pillow may be worn around a mother's torso with the central opening encompassing the mother's torso. An inner surface is disposed between the central opening and the outer side. The inner surface faces the central opening and is sloped from a low point of the inner surface proximate the central opening to a high point of the inner surface proximate the outer side.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 4, 2015Publication date: March 10, 2016Inventors: Rodney V.
