  • Patent number: 10020581
Abstract: The present disclosure provides systems and methods for enhancing the performance of permeable antennas. Further, the parallel solenoid feed system disclosed herein may be used to reduce or eliminate significant phase delays in antennas, which may lead to destructive interference. Moreover, use of the parallel solenoid feed in an antenna eliminates the need for multiple feeds, complicated feed networks, and elaborate matching circuits. Using the parallel solenoid feed in circular magnetic antennas may enhance the performance of the antenna through maintaining the flux. Finally, many adjustable parameters for further tuning and/or optimizing the performance of particular antenna design have been identified herein, which may allow those skilled in the art to utilize known systems, such as full wave simulation software, to determine the desired final design for an antenna utilizing a parallel solenoid feed.

  • Patent number: 7946288
Abstract: A medical apparatus that holds open a mouth of a patient. The apparatus contains a passage through which the patient can breathe by mouth. The apparatus contains a port to which an oxygen line is connected and which delivers oxygen to the passage for inhalation by the patient. The apparatus contains a sampling port which samples air in the passage and delivers sampled air to a monitoring device. The latter measures, for example, carbon dioxide content in the sampled gas, and issues a warning if carbon dioxide concentration is out-of-bounds. Phosphor material can be added to the apparatus, to make the apparatus glow in a darkened operating room, to allow technicians to easily find the patient's mouth and to insert tools, tubing, instruments and the like in the patient's mouth.

  • Patent number: 7889149
Abstract: A dielectric polyrod having at least one tapered section, where a section exposed outside of the waveguide is tapered a long a curve that depends on the dielectric constant of the material used. The invention also relates to an aperture matched polyrod antenna which includes the same and an inductive tuning element used to achieve wideband impedance match and to create a Gaussian beam in the radiating near field of the antenna, suitable to mimic a small region plane wave.

  • Publication number: 20060065856
Abstract: An array of antenna elements (20) can be used to detect subwavelength sized anomalies on a surface below the array. An array (20) is illuminated at optical frequencies by a coherent optical energy source (26). The change in reactance and radiated power of the antenna elements that results from the proximity of the anomaly to the near field of the antenna element's open-circuited is detected and holographically filtered to eliminate the radiation caused by the antenna array itself. Image processing is performed on the detected scattered radiation (100) to determine whether an anomaly is present and to locate the anomaly and its characteristics.

  • Publication number: 20050030137
Abstract: A magnetically-loaded artificial magnetic conductor surface provides enhanced bandwidth. The structure includes in one embodiment a thumbtack structure with a spacer layer that is loaded with a barium-cobalt hexaferrite based artificial magnetic material. Specifically, the geometry consists of a ground plane covered with thinly sliced ferrite tiles that are metallized and stacked. Each tile has a metal via running through its center that is electrically connected to the plated metallized surfaces. A foam spacer layer resides above the ferrite tiles. Atop the foam spacer layer rests a capacitive surface, which can be realized as a single layer array of metal patches, a multiple layer array of overlapping patches or other planar capacitive geometry.
