    Abstract: N-phosphonomethyl glycine is prepared starting from glycine, formaldehyde and a tertiary base in alcoholic solution. After completion of the reaction, a dialkyl phosphite is added. The reaction product is hydrolyzed, and acidification yields the desired product in good purity.
