  • Publication number: 20070235236
Abstract: A power system includes a power source, a first electric machine drivingly connected to the power source, a second electric machine drivingly connected to the power source, and power-system controls. The power-system controls may include a bidirectional power regulator operable to cause the first electric machine to operate as an electric motor and also operable to cause and regulate generation of electricity by the first electric machine. Additionally, the power-system controls may include a unidirectional power regulator operable to cause and regulate generation of electricity by the second electric machine.

  • Publication number: 20070159119
Abstract: A power system includes a power source with a rotary output member. The power system may also include an electric machine having a rotor and a stator. The rotor of the electric machine may be drivingly connected to the rotary output member of the power source. Additionally, the power system may include a sensor configured to provide a signal relating to at least one of a position of the rotor and a speed of the rotor. The power system may also include power-system controls configured to control electric current supply to the stator dependent upon the signal and control the power source dependent upon the signal.

  • Publication number: 20070069667
Abstract: A selectively configurable electric motor comprises a stator and a plurality of poles electrically coupled to the stator. The selectively configurable electric motor also includes an actuator separated from the poles by an air gap and configured to move relative to the stator in the presence of an electromagnetic field. The selectively configurable electric motor further includes a plurality of electric conductors, each of the plurality of electric conductors substantially wound around one of the plurality of poles. The selectively configurable electric motor also includes a power converter, at least a portion of which is coupled to the plurality of electric conductors, including a plurality of switching elements configured to selectively couple one or more of the plurality of electric conductors in a predetermined electrical configuration.

  • Publication number: 20060192518
Abstract: A switched reluctance traction system is provided for work machines. The switched reluctance traction system may include a plurality of switched reluctance motors. Each switched reluctance motor may include a stator with a plurality of stator poles and a rotor with a plurality of rotor poles. The switched reluctance traction system may also include one or more coupling elements to couple together the plurality of switched reluctance motors such that each of the plurality of motors is capable of driving the switched reluctance traction system independently.
