Abstract: A terminal for handover using channel characteristics and a control method thereof are provided. Reception level information is received from a neighboring base station. A state of the neighboring base station having transmitted the reception level information is measured. A corresponding neighboring base station to which the handover is possible is selected using a corrected reception level value by computing the corrected reception level value using a value of the reception level information received from the neighboring base station and a channel characteristic value of the neighboring base station. A better neighboring base station for the handover can be selected by applying a reception level based on detected channel characteristics (quality) of a corresponding neighboring base station even when an actually measured reception level of the neighboring base station is high.

Abstract: Provided are an apparatus and a method for changing a network attach mode in a mobile communication terminal using a GSM (Global System for Mobile) scheme and a GPRS scheme. The method includes determining whether a GPRS attach procedure fails due to a network problem in a predetermined auto attach mode; and changing the predetermined auto attach mode into a manual attach mode when the GPRS attach procedure fails due to the network problem.

Abstract: An apparatus and a method of cell selection/reselection or Public Land Mobile Network (PLMN) selection of a mobile communication terminal are provided. The method includes sorting observed cells according to the intensity of signals being received from the cells; checking a control information of an (i)th cell of the sorted cells and determining whether the (i)th cell is selectable and reselected as a target cell and whether the (i)th cell supports General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) and Enhanced Data Rates for Global Evolution (EDGE) service; and performing a Camp-On of the (i)th cell, upon determining that the (i)th cell is selectable and reselectable as the target cell and that the (i)th cell supports the GPRS and the EDGE service.

The method comprises the steps of checking whether or not a call is to be forwarded when the calling subscriber originates a call, determining whether the call forwarding connection is pre-approved, and selectively establishing the call connection.

Abstract: A method for transmitting a short message to a plurality of subscribers in a mobile communication system. Upon detecting the selection of a short message service menu, a mobile communication terminal transmits short message information including a group identifier and a short message. A short message service center detects the group identifier from the short message information, reads subscriber numbers corresponding to the group identifier from its memory, and simultaneously transmits the short message to the called subscriber numbers.
