  • Patent number: 8923667
Abstract: A multi-port wavelength selective switch includes a one dimensional array of input and output ports. The multi-port wavelength selective switch further includes a wavelength dispersive element configured to receive input optical signals from the input ports, and to disperse wavelength components thereof. Additionally, the multi-port wavelength selective switch includes an array of beam steering devices. Each beam steering device is controllable to a position at which the beam steering device directs a wavelength component of an input optical signal received through a first input port to an output port and directs the same wavelength component of an input optical signal received through a second input port away from all of the output ports.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: February 11, 2011
Date of Patent: December 30, 2014
    Assignee: Finisar Corporation
Inventors: Gil Cohen, Yossi Corem, Roey Harel, Johnny Leung
  • Patent number: 8654434
Abstract: An optical device compensates for decreased transmission of light caused by gaps between mirrors of a MEMS array. The optical device employs MEMS mirrors having non-reflecting regions on them disposed such that reflecting regions of the MEMS mirrors have substantially the same optical throughput, or an additional optical element having increased transmission at those spatial positions where light impinging on the gaps passes through. Alternatively, the optical device may employ a filter having spectral transmission characteristic with increased transmission at those wavelengths of dispersed light that impinge on the gaps.

    Assignee: Oclaro (New Jersey), Inc.

  • Patent number: 7034977
Abstract: A method and apparatus is provided for controlling the bias point of a Mach-Zehnder modulator. The method begins by applying a dither signal to a DC bias that is applied to a Mach-Zehnder modulator. A component of an optical output signal provided by the Mach-Zehnder modulator that is synchronous with the dither signal is detected. The dither signal is adjusted to maintain the detected component of the optical output signal at a substantially constant value.

Date of Patent: April 25, 2006
    Assignee: Kodeos Communications

  • Patent number: 6549692
Abstract: The position of a micro-mirror, for example, in an optical switch, may be monitored using an optical position control signals that are detected by a detector arrangement. The position of the micro-mirror may be adjusted by detecting the position of the beam spot and comparing the detected position to a desired position.
