  • Patent number: 9725179
Abstract: An electrical generator assembly including a central rotatable shaft (12) having a winding assembly (26) mounted thereto for rotation therewith, a rotatable permanent magnet assembly (28) surrounding the winding assembly (26) adjacent thereto and in use cooperating therewith to induce a current in the winding assembly (26), and a drive system (38, 138, 238, 338, 438) drivingly interconnecting the central shaft (12) and the permanent magnet assembly (28), the drive system (38, 138, 238, 338, 438) defining a relative rotational speed between the permanent magnet assembly (28) and the winding assembly (26) which is greater than an absolute rotational speed of the winding assembly (26). A method of powering an electrical system (22) on a rotating rotor blade (18) supported by a rotating mast (12) is also discussed.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: February 15, 2013
Date of Patent: August 8, 2017
Assignees: UNIVERSITE DU QUEBEC A CHICOUTIMI, BELL HELICOPTER TEXTRON INC.

  • Patent number: 9056684
Abstract: An aircraft includes a heat absorbent material carried by an airfoil susceptible to ice buildup and a transmitter spaced apart from the heat absorbent material. A method includes the process of transmitting the heat energy from the transmitter to the heat absorbent material that in turn warms the airfoil to break apart ice buildup.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 16, 2012
Date of Patent: June 16, 2015
    Assignee: Textron Innovations Inc.
Inventors: James M. McCollough, Roger Aubert
  • Patent number: 8939399
Abstract: The present application relates to a regenerative or hybrid drive system for an aircraft. The drive system includes the use of a power augmentation device to selectively engage the drive system of an aircraft to store power. The power in the power augmentation device being configured to release a power burst to systems within the aircraft to perform critical flight maneuvers.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: July 31, 2012
Date of Patent: January 27, 2015
    Assignee: Textron Innovations Inc.
Inventors: Areian Kouros, Roger Aubert, Paul Madej

  • Patent number: 4081325
Abstract: A cylindrical shell or so-called reactor core basket is fitted with a coaxial and cylindrical bearing ring which is joined to a top flange of the core basket by means of radial struts and rests on an internal annular shoulder of the reactor vessel. Passageways between the bearing ring and the struts accommodate instruments for nondestructive testing of welded joints, the instruments being guided and displaced over the external face of the core basket in order to inspect the internal face of the reactor vessel without any need to remove reactor internals.
