  • Patent number: 7413692
Abstract: Fibrous composite articles and method of manufacturing the same are disclosed. The preferred fibrous materials have average fiber lengths of less than about 2 millimeters, and are obtained from industrial hemp hurd, kenaf hurd, and/or the culms of various species of vegetable bamboo. The fibers are combined with a binder resin and, optionally, a sizing agent to form a mat that is consolidated under heat and pressure to form the composite articles. The formed articles exhibit strength and durability characteristics at least roughly equivalent, if not superior, to those of conventional wood-based fibrous composite articles.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: January 11, 2005
Date of Patent: August 19, 2008
    Assignee: Masonite Corporation
Inventors: Bei-Hong Liang, Roger E. Koch, John Peter Walsh, Bob Allen, Hanmin Dong, Wen-Ning (Sally) Chan

  • Patent number: 5573598
Abstract: A method of cleaning a pressing and/or curing apparatus includes providing a cleaning mat on the interior of the apparatus and subjecting the cleaning mat to elevated temperature and/or pressure. The cleaning mat is pre-treated with a cleaning composition which preferably includes sodium carbonate. The method obviates and/or reduces the need to disassemble a pressing apparatus (e.g., remove die sets) for periodic cleaning.
