  • Patent number: 7730572
Abstract: An inter-dental brush is provided with a handle that accepts a cartridge housing continuous inter-dental brush feedstock. Used, worn out brush is cut off by a slidable cutter provided on an angled portion of the handle. Fresh inter-dental brush is fed out from the continuous inter-dental feedstock by turning a knob on the handle. The protrusion length of the inter-dental brush is controlled by the number of turns. The knob is connected to a gear that pushes against the feedstock, driving the brush through an aperture in the angled portion of the handle. Within the cartridge, the feedstock is removably attached to one swivel and is wrapped around a second swivel. The swivels have a brake that produces a taut feedstock as the brush is fed out. The cartridge may contain a single roll with a brake instead of a pair of swivels.

  • Patent number: 7408367
Abstract: A micro Kelvin probe assembly and method of accomplishing a micro Kelvin measurement that determines the resistance or impedance of a device under test (DUT) that has two spaced contacts. An ammeter is used to flow current through the DUT, and a voltmeter is used to measure the voltage drop across the DUT. There is a printed circuit board (PCB) carrying two pairs of contacts, with a trace leading to each contact. Anisotropic conductive elastomer (ACE) material as an electrical interposer is placed in electrical contact with each of the PCB contacts. The DUT is placed on the ACE such that each DUT contact is directly opposite one pair of PCB contacts. The ammeter is connected to one trace leading to one contact of each pair of PCB contacts to flow current through the DUT, and the voltmeter is connected to the other trace leading to the other contact of each pair of PCB contacts, so that voltmeter can measure the voltage drop across the DUT without an effect caused by the interposer.

  • Patent number: 7242583
Abstract: A system for coupling a heat sink to an electrical device independently of a clamping member that is used to place a coupling force between the electrical device and a substrate to which the electrical device is to be electrically connected. The system includes a clamping member adapted to push the electrical device against the substrate, to assist in electrical connection between the electrical device and the substrate, the clamping member defining a through-hole leading to the electrical device. There is also a heat-conducting member in the clamping member through-hole and adapted to thermally contact the electrical device to conduct heat away from the electrical device. A heat sink is in thermal contact with the heat-conducting member, to dissipate heat from the electrical device.

  • Patent number: 7017260
Abstract: Devices and methods of stressing anisotropic conductive elastomer (ACE) sheet material that defines a plurality of electrical pathways through its thickness. The perimeter of the sheet is mechanically gripped, while leaving an interior portion of the sheet free. A surface over which the interior portion of the sheet is to be stretched is provided, and the sheet and the surface are contacted. The sheet and the surface are then relatively moved, to stretch the sheet over the surface, and thereby stress the interior portion of the sheet.

  • Patent number: 6929484
Abstract: An apparatus for applying a mechanically-releasable balanced compressive load to an assembly such as a compliant electrical connector that electrically connects an electrical device to a first side of a two-sided substrate. The apparatus includes a backup plate coupled to the second side of the substrate, a rocker plate behind the backup plate, the rocker plate touching the backup plate at only one location, and a rigid member coupled to the first side of the substrate. There are three or more pins mechanically coupled to the rocker plate and the rigid member. When there are four or more pins, a rocker member is mechanically coupled to two of the pins, and in contact with the rocker plate at a single pivot. A compressible spring, mechanically coupled to a pin, applies a force, coupled through the pin, to urge the backup plate and rigid member together and thereby compress the compliant electrical connector between the electrical device and the substrate to make the separable electrical connection.

  • Patent number: 6892935
Abstract: A method for secure, electronic, distributed voting using existing automated teller machines (ATMs), comprising issuing each voter an access card that can be read by an ATM and a personal identification number (PIN). This card may be a standard bank credit or debit card. ATMs are enabled to read access cards and accept PINs. In response to the reading of an access card and appropriate PIN entry, information relating to the vote to be cast is displayed at the ATM. The user is allowed to cast votes using one or more ATM functions. A particular ATM function is identified as an indication of finalization of the vote. In response, the finalized vote is automatically tallied.
