  • Patent number: 5222697
Abstract: A pin puller for use in an automatic activation system for initiating the deployment of a parachute includes a small pyrotechnic actuator comprised essentially of a piston and cylinder. The cylinder includes a bracket through which the ripcord pin extends and which passes through the parachute pack closing loop. A thrust plate is carried by the forward end of the piston and is adapted to engage the loop. When the actuator is fired, the piston is prevented from moving forward by its engagement with the loop whereby the cylinder moves rearwardly withdrawing the pin from the loop. The entire pin puller assembly is carried on the exterior of the pack and is supported essentially by the interaction of the pin with the loop.

  • Patent number: 4662589
Abstract: Two ram air sections are included in a parachute canopy. The sections are arranged on opposite sides of a central axis, and face in opposite directions with respect to translational movement but the same direction with respect to rotational movement about the axis. The lower skins of the sections slope upwards from front to rear whereby the canopy rotates and the ram air sections create aero-dynamic lift slowing descent.

  • Patent number: 4332234
Abstract: A cylindrical projectile is introduced into the barrel of the propelling apparatus in such a way that the base of the projectile is in contact with a rear cover plate of the breech block. An enclosure communicates with the barrel by means of an elbow and an opening in the side of the breech block to which the elbow is joined. When the projectile is in place, gaskets seal the barrel off from the enclosure. The latter may be filled with compressed air, e.g., by means of a coupling screwed into a tapped hole. It then suffices to move the projectile forward by pushing on a rod passing through the breech block cover plate. The thrust of the entering air moves the projectile, and the size of the air passage rapidly increases, thus ensuring a maximum propulsive effect.
