  • Patent number: 9595355
Abstract: An annulus spacer for a fuel channel assembly of a nuclear reactor, and method of manufacturing an annulus spacer. The fuel channel assembly includes a calandria tube and a pressure tube positioned at least partially within the calandria tube. The annulus spacer includes a garter spring configured to surround a portion of the pressure tube to maintain a gap between the calandria tube and the pressure tube. A girdle wire is positioned substantially within the garter spring and configured to form a loop around the pressure tube. The girdle wire includes a first segment and a second segment that overlaps the first segment to form an overlap, the overlap extending between approximately 45 degrees and approximately 135 degrees to reduce the possibility of girdle wire twisting.
    Type: Grant

Date of Patent: March 14, 2017
Assignee: Atomic Energy of Canada Limited
Inventors: Jean-Claude Stranart, Marcia Helen Sanderson, Donald Ray Metzger, Andre Roger Gagnon, Reza Ziaei, Jan Frantisek Slavik

  • Patent number: 8226827
Abstract: This invention relates to filtration assemblies and methods of installing filtration units in filtration assemblies. Filtration assemblies may include first and second end pieces, at least one filtration unit between the first and second end pieces, and at least one alignment rod arrangement. The alignment rod arrangement may extend between the end pieces and align the filtration units and the end pieces.

The annulus spacer includes a garter spring configured to surround a portion of the pressure tube to maintain a gap between the calandria tube and the pressure tube. The garter spring includes a first end and a second end. The annulus spacer also includes a connector coupled to the first end and the second end of the garter spring. The connector allows movement of the annulus spacer when the pressure tube moves relative to the calandria tube during thermal cycles of the fuel channel assembly. The annulus spacer further includes a girdle wire positioned substantially within the garter spring and configured to form a loop around the pressure tube.

  • Patent number: 7918999
Abstract: This invention relates to filtration manifolds, filtration assemblies, methods of channeling permeate, and filtration units. Filtration assemblies may include filtration units and filtration manifolds having isolated permeate collection passages. Permeate may be channeled through the isolated permeate collection passages of the filtration manifold during filtration and then output from the manifold.

  • Publication number: 20080135499
Abstract: A filtration assembly may comprise first and second end pieces having inner and outer faces, at least one filtration unit between the inner faces of the first and second end pieces, and at least one compression rod arrangement extending between the end pieces. The compression rod arrangement may comprise an unthreaded compression rod and a locking device mounted to the compression rod to maintain compression of the filtration unit between the end pieces. A method of maintaining compression of filtration units may comprise installing at least one filtration unit between a first end piece and a second end piece and maintaining compression of the end pieces and the filtration unit, including mounting a locking device to an unthreaded compression rod.
