Publication number: 20230381420Abstract: A medical injection device including a housing having a distal end and a proximal end, a brake tower having a proximal end portion, a distal end portion, and a sidewall therebetween defining a longitudinal axis, and a cartridge received within the housing distally of the brake tower and holding a composition therein. The device further includes a retaining ring positioned between the proximal end portion of the cartridge and the distal end portion of the brake tower, wherein the retaining ring may be secured to an interior surface of the distal end portion of the brake tower. A spring washer component may also be provided, wherein the spring washer component may be retained by the retaining ring so as to bias the cartridge in a distal direction to prevent any movement of the cartridge during injection.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 23, 2021Publication date: November 30, 2023Inventors: Roger Groskopf, Evan Leibowitz

Patent number: 11547810Abstract: A drug delivery device is provided herein, the device including a reservoir for containing a medicament. The medicament includes a suspension of solids in a liquid carrier. The device also includes a needle having a distal end for injection into a patient, a proximal end in communication with the reservoir, and a lumen extending between the distal and proximal ends. A path is defined from the reservoir to the distal end of the needle through the lumen, the path having an inner diameter that decreases in a proximal to distal direction along at least a portion thereof. Advantageously, with the subject invention, a flow path may be defined which provides a more gradual transition in diameter from the reservoir to a distal tip of the needle. In this manner, changes in velocity of the suspension may be less abrupt than in the prior art, thus better maintaining solid particles in the suspension.Type: GrantFiled: October 4, 2019Date of Patent: January 10, 2023Assignee: Becton, Dickinson and CompanyInventors: Roger Groskopf, Behzad D. Patent number: 11452816Abstract: In one aspect of the subject invention, a drug delivery device is provided which includes a reservoir for containing a medicament and has a proximal end and a distal end, the medicament including a suspension of solids in a liquid carrier. Further, the drug delivery device includes a needle in fluid communication with the reservoir and having a distal end for injection into a patient, and a proximal end in the reservoir. An accumulation surface is defined at least partially about the needle, distally of the proximal end of the needle. The accumulation surface defines a distally-extending indentation which is sized and shaped to collect, during use, solids that come out of suspension. Advantageously, with the subject invention, the accumulation surface allows for solids to accumulate at a location spaced from the proximal end of the needle, thereby minimizing the possibility of clogging the needle.Type: GrantFiled: January 2, 2019Date of Patent: September 27, 2022Assignee: Becton, Dickinson and CompanyInventors: Roger Groskopf, Lionel Vedrine, Michael C. Ratigan

Publication number: 20100298779Abstract: A prefilled syringe and syringe assembly having a syringe and a tip cap are produced from materials that do not interfere with the substance contained in the syringe and enable long term storage. The tip cap is made from a blend of a cyclic olefin polymer or copolymer and a thermoplastic elastomer. The thermoplastic elastomer is blended with the cyclic olefin copolymer in an amount so that the normally stiff and hard cyclic olefin copolymer is flexible and resilient to effectively seal and couple to the tip of a prefilled syringe.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 5, 2010Publication date: November 25, 2010Applicant: BECTON, DICKINSON AND COMPANYInventors: KEVIN G. Patent number: 7604613Abstract: A medical device for delivering a medicament to a patient. The device includes a syringe barrel with a plunger having a hollow front end and a stopper positioned over the plunger front end to seal the plunger front end. The stopper is movably inserted in the barrel to expel medicament in the barrel. A needle cannula is fixed to a needle cannula hub and is movable between an initial position in which the forward tip of the needle cannula is exposed and a retracted position in which the forward tip is contained within the medical device. A plug seal releasably secures the needle cannula hub to an end of the barrel, and a hub adapter secures the plug seal to the barrel end. A cutter positioned on the plunger pierces the stopper when the stopper is pressed against the plug seal to open the hollow front end of the plunger. The plunger also engages the plug seal to allow the needle cannula hub to move, via an urging member, to the retracted position through the front end of the plunger.Type: GrantFiled: January 20, 2004Date of Patent: October 20, 2009Assignee: Beckton, Dickinson and CompanyInventors: Jamie Crawford, Frank Francavilla, Roger Groskopf

Patent number: 7497847Abstract: A medical device includes a syringe assembly and a shield system for delivering medicament to a patient. The syringe assembly includes a barrel defining a medicament reservoir, a needle cannula coupled to the barrel and in fluid communication with the reservoir, a plunger having a stopper positioned in the reservoir and a thumb pad for moving the plunger in the reservoir. The shield system has a shield coupled to a forward end of the barrel, the shield being movable from a first position disposed from the needle cannula tip to a second position during insertion of the needle into a patient and movable from the second position to a third position covering the needle cannula tip after the needle cannula is removed from the patient. An urging member urges the shield to the third position upon removal of the needle cannula from the patient.Type: GrantFiled: November 3, 2003Date of Patent: March 3, 2009Assignee: Becton, Dickinson and CompanyInventors: Jamie Crawford, Frank Francavilla, Roger Groskopf

Patent number: 7468054Abstract: A medical device for delivering medicament to a patient including a syringe assembly, a shield body, a retainer and an urging member. The syringe assembly includes a barrel defining a reservoir for medicament, a needle cannula coupled to the barrel and in fluid communication with the reservoir, a plunger having a stopper positioned in the reservoir and a thumb pad for moving the plunger in the reservoir. The syringe barrel is movable within the shield body between a first position exposing the forward tip of the needle cannula, and a second position where the tip of the needle cannula is in the shield body. A retainer secures the syringe barrel in the first position. An urging member urges the syringe barrel from the first position toward the second position upon interaction with the thumb pad and upon the release of pressure applied to the thumb pad.Type: GrantFiled: November 3, 2003Date of Patent: December 23, 2008Assignee: Becton, Dickinson and CompanyInventors: Jamie Crawford, Frank Francavilla, Roger Groskopf
