  • Patent number: 10915149
Abstract: A device includes a housing. The housing can define a duct having a central axis. A first loading surface can extend into the duct toward the central axis, while a second loading surface can extend into the duct toward the central axis. A first driver and a second driver can be situated within the duct along the central axis. The first driver can abut the second driver. A first spring biases the first driver away from the first loading surface, thereby causing the first driver to apply a first loading force to the second driver. A second spring applies a second loading force to the second driver, along a common direction with the first loading force, to bias the second driver away from the second loading surface, with the first spring and second spring operating in parallel on the second driver.

  • Patent number: 10893129
Abstract: An electronic device includes a first device housing and a second device housing. Each can optionally define a linear recess. A hinge couples the first device housing to the second device housing. The first device housing is pivotable about the hinge relative to the second device housing. A flexible display is situated in the linear recess, where included, and spans the hinge. The hinge includes a cam, a first support plate pivotally coupled to a first side of the cam, and a second support plate pivotally coupled to a second side of the cam. The first support plate, the cam, and the second support plate bridge the linear recess of each device housing when the electronic device is in an axially displaced open position, but define boundaries within which the flexible display defines a service loop when the electronic device is in a closed position.

  • Patent number: 7142667
Abstract: The present invention provides a mechanism and method for rotating at least a first and second housing elements (120, 220) of a device (100) with respect to one another. The first and second housing elements (120, 220) have a common axis of rotation (270), which is substantially perpendicular to a front surface of the device (100). The mechanism includes a first transport (302), a second transport (304), a tension device (306), and an engagement member (400). The first and second transports (302, 304) selectively engage contact elements (308, 310) of the first and second housing elements (120, 220) and selectively travel about a ring path as the first and second housings rotate relative to one another.

  • Publication number: 20060133052
Abstract: A foldable electronic device (100) includes a flexible hinge mechanism for enabling the opening and closing of the first housing element (102) and the second housing element (104). The flexible hinge mechanism includes a flexible hinge element (106), a drag link (108) and a flexible connection strip (506). The flexible hinge element connects the two housing elements and is elastic in nature. The drag link also connecting the two housing elements and limits an opening angle between the two housing elements to an angle less than 180 degrees. The flexible connection strip is routed along the length of the flexible hinge element and connects electrical circuits in the two housing elements for exchange of signals.

  • Publication number: 20060112519
Abstract: A dual-axes hinge part (106) defines a lower hinge (132) and an upper hinge (130) of an electronic device (100). The upper hinge (130) permits a component, such as a display member (102) to pivot with respect to the hinge part (106) in a portrait mode. The lower hinge (132) permits both the display member (102) and the hinge part (106) to pivot with respect to a base (104) in a landscape mode. The axes of the hinges (130, 132) cross one another and lie in different planes. The hinge part (106) conforms to the shapes of the housing of the display member (102) and the housing of the base (104) and has no parts that project substantially beyond the boundaries of the display member (102) and the base (104). Thus, the hinge part (106) provides dual-axes functionality while not detracting from the aesthetics of the electronic device (100).

  • Publication number: 20060046792
Abstract: A collapsible device having first housing (110) rotateably coupled to a second housing (120) so as to rotate from a closed position (103) to an open position (200), wherein the first housing is angularly displaced from the second housing, for example in a wireless communications device. The first housing also moves relative to the second housing from a first closed position (101) to a second closed position (103). From the second closed position the first housing may rotate relative to the second housing about a rotation axis 106. In one embodiment the collapsible housing includes a slide enabling member that is rotatably coupled to the hinge and enables the first housing to move from the first closed position to the second closed position.
