    Abstract: An air induction system is disclosed for an engine that comprises an air cleaner, an inlet air conduit, a Mass Air Flow Sensor (MAFS), and a secondary air induction system. The air filter encloses a filter element that removes contaminants from the air supplied to the engine. A MAFS is disposed in the inlet air conduit and measures the mass of the air flowing through the inlet air conduit to an intake manifold of the engine and provides data to an engine control module that controls the air/fuel mixture supplied to the engine. The secondary air system receives air from the air cleaner that is provided to a vehicle component and includes an inlet port located upstream from the MAFS. The secondary induction conduit draws air through a port integrated with the MAFS bore with an air pump to provide clean air to an engine component or exhaust system component.

The air intake system also includes a hydrocarbon (HC) trap secured to the conduit component within the air intake duct. The conduit component defines at least one retention feature to maintain a position of the HC trap such that removal of the HC trap from the air intake duct results in structural compromise of the at least one retention feature. The air intake duct is also configured to shield the at least one retention feature from user access to inhibit user removal of the HC trap.

    Abstract: A dual path fuel vapor purge system is disclosed for an engine having a turbocharger or a super. The purge system includes a canister configured to collect fuel vapor from a fuel tank. A canister purge valve is provided downstream from the canister. An ejector valve receives fuel vapors from the canister through the canister purge valve. A first vapor purge path directs the fuel vapor to an intake manifold of the engine. A second vapor purge path directs fuel vapor to an air induction system. A check valve downstream from the ejector valve receives the fuel vapor from the ejector and supplies the fuel vapor to the air induction system. Boost flow opens the check valve when the air induction system is in operation to boost the engine and closes the check valve when the engine is in operation with normal aspiration or when a leak is detected.

Each barb includes an upper edge extending beyond the unattached end of the post. Each barb includes a ramped, grommet-passing surface. The spool-shaped isolator mounting grommet may be formed from materials such as TPO, TPE, AEM, ECO, and EPDM.

The hydrocarbon-adsorbing and air filter trap are incorporated into a soundtube. A first soundtube portion connects the housing to the engine's air intake system while a second soundtube is open to ambient and connects the housing to a vehicle body structure such as a fender. Selection of the body diameter, thickness, and length, the dimensions and type of both air filter media and hydrocarbon-adsorbing media and position of the air filter media, NVH media, and space relative to the trap media and location of the integrated hydrocarbon trap and air filter along the soundtube provide superior tunability and adaptability.

    Abstract: Vapors in the fuel tank of a vehicle are collected in a carbon canister. An ejector or aspirator is used to purge the carbon canister in a pressure-charged engine in which a positive pressure exists in the intake. A compact ejector includes a substantially planar flange and a venturi tube coupled to the flange with a central axis of the venturi tube substantially parallel to the flange. By manufacturing the ejector in two pieces, dimensions within the ejector: throat, converging section, and diverging section, is more accurate than prior art manufacturing techniques thereby providing better flow characteristics throughout the boost range. By forming one of the two pieces of the ejector integrally with the air intake component in which it is coupled, decreases part count and the number of manufacturing processes.

The resistive silencer assembly incorporates a resistive silencer material. The assembly includes an intake duct having air inlet and outlet ends, an acoustic absorbing material support structure positioned between the air inlet and air outlet ends, and an acoustic absorbing element supported by the acoustic absorbing material support structure. The acoustic absorbing element has a defined and non-amorphous shape. The air enters the air inlet end, passes by the acoustic absorbing material, and exits the air outlet end. The acoustic absorbing element is formed from a foam material that may be open cell or closed cell. If open cell foam, the material may be either a low density or high density polyurethane foam. If closed cell foam, the material may be crushed, closed-celled ethylene propylene dieme or polyvinyl nitrile foam.
