Abstract: The present description provides composite polymer compositions comprising a plastomeric material, an elastomeric material or a combination thereof, and an additive, for example, a dispersant or surface active agent (i.e., surfactant). The description also provides methods of manufacturing and using the same, e.g., to improve or modify the performance of adhesive materials, such as, for example, asphalt.

Abstract: Disclosed are filled oil-in-water asphalt emulsions which remain homogeneous for prolonged periods of time notwithstanding the presence of particulate filler that might be expected to break the emulsions. The emulsions contain asphalt dispersed as the discontinuous phase in an aqueous continuous phase, particulate filler, and one or more amphoteric emulsifiers selected from the group consisting of compounds of the formulas (a) and (b)R.sup.4 --(OC.sub.3 H.sub.6).sub.0-1 --(C(O)NH(CH.sub.2).sub.1-3).sub.0-1 --N(Z.sup.1) (Z.sup.2).sub.0-1 --ZCOOX (a)R.sup.4 --(OC.sub.3 H.sub.6).sub.0-1 (C(O)NH(CH.sub.2).sub.1-3).sub.0-1 --N(Z.sup.1) (Z.sup.2).sub.0-1 --ZSO.sub.3 XH (b)wherein R.sup.4 is C.sub.4-24 alkyl or alkylene, f is 1-6, is --H or a cation, Z is (CH.sub.2).sub.f, CH.sub.2 CHOHCH.sub.2, or CH.sub.2 CH.sub.2 OCH.sub.2 CH.sub.2, and Z.sup.1 and Z.sup.2 are C.sub.f H.sub.2f+1 or C.sub.f H.sub.2f OH, or in (a) Z.sup.1 can be --ZCOOX.

Abstract: Disclosed is a polymer-modified asphalt composition which comprises a mixture of (a) a blend of from about 10 to 75 weight-percent of one or more of a thermoplastic rubber polymer and from about 90 to 25 weight-percent of one or more of a fatty dialkyl amide, and (b) an asphalt cement. Also disclosed is a method of preparing such compositions, which requires gentle stirring only.
